Today’s race — it’s all on me. No excuse!!!
I take full responsibility for the result of today’s duathlon. I made a lot of mistakes, but I also gained a lot of learnings.

Here are some of the things I did wrong:
🚫 Forgot to bring bike tools and a pump — but thankfully, my teammate had one, and big thanks to Coach Don Velasco for lending tools.
🚫 Used ordinary packaging tape to stick my gels on the bike — ended up losing my 3 key nutrition that was supposed to fuel me for the 12km run.
🚫 Got too competitive and broke drafting rules few times — earned myself a penalty.
🚫 Overconfident — didn’t bother checking the race map. Surprise trail section! Slipped and learned the hard way.
🚫 Trained for only 2 weeks before the race — chose recovery due to previous lactate build-up issues..

But despite everything, I’m still grateful. I finished strong and brought home valuable lessons. And the best reminder came from my daughter Saphire & Aerith when I told them about my mistakes. They said:

“It’s okay, Daddy. Many mistakes will teach you many lessons. Just come back stronger next time.” 💙

SPORTS UPDATE: Raymund Torio of Lingayen, Pangasinan was crowned overall champion in the Powerman Malaysia 2025 on June 22, 2025 in Dataran Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The former University of Luzon standout finished first out of more than 1,100 participants in the open classic category after clocking 02:50:59.

Started my Sunday with a chill 50km bike spin under Zone 2 before going to church, legs feeling good and vibes even better.

While enjoying the ride, I got to see my running students, and it honestly made my day seeing them embrace the process. Most of them are really improving.. Way way better than when they 1st came to me to coach them.

Afterwards, we had some time for kwentuhan, konting kulitan, and a quick talk about training and progress. Grateful for days like this. What a blessed Sunday.

Today’s Active Rest: Plyometrics + 50km Z2 Spin

Why this combo?
I did plyometrics to work on explosive strength, power, and neuromuscular coordination, super important for runners and duathletes to build better running efficiency and stride mechanics.

Then followed it with a 50km easy Zone 2 ride, a low-impact aerobic workout to:

*Boost endurance without adding stress to the joints

*Help with active recovery by increasing blood flow and clearing lactate

*Maintain training volume while giving my legs time to recover from high-intensity efforts

Balance is key: build power + protect the engine with endurance work..

Less than 2 weeks to go before my 3rd Duathlon!

Started training just 4 days ago, not the perfect timing, but I’m pushing through. Still not at 100% because of the lactic acid build-up, but I’m not backing down.

Every ride, every run, every effort counts.
Got my ride in today around 7:30am.. yeah, a bit late, but no excuses. I'm showing up, and that’s what matters.

Crossing that finish line is the goal.
And I’ll get there, one ride at a time.

1 hour Z2 bike training.

Yeah yeah, I already ran earlier today, but I was being extra cautious on that run.
And i still need to fill up my training load, so I decided to do another session with less impact on my muscles and knees.

It’s nice to be back on the road!

Just finished a super easy 5km run today, with a 5-minute walk for warm-up and cool-down. Still on recovery mode from that lactic acid buildup.

Honestly, I feel a bit better now but I don’t want to push too hard and risk triggering it again. So I’m taking it slow, listening to my body, and focusing on steady progress. Recovery is also part of training.
