Are there lessons that never made it to a whiteboard?
Lessons from our teachers—through lectures, assignments, or performance tasks—we meet them every day. Yet, there is a side of teaching that we, as students, don’t often get to see.
Oftentimes, we don’t see the lesson planning, the preparation, nor the subdued worry about whether we were able to understand the lessons they taught.
And yet, despite these worries, our teachers are much like our parents. They prepare us for our lives outside of school, give us things we never knew we needed, and look after us while witnessing our growth through the years—all thanks to their own hard work.
We refer to our teachers by titles such as ‘Ma’am’ or ‘Sir,’ but behind those titles are people, much like us, with dreams they continue to pursue, frustrations they carry, and reasons that led them to choose the path of education. Today, we are the ones whose achievements are being recognized.
Today, we are happy to love, learn, grow, and play because you have guided us through every step along the way. For every lesson you taught us, every dream you helped us build, and every fear you helped us overcome—
Happy National Teachers’ Day!
May you finally see how much your lessons have stayed with us.
This time, let us recognize our teachers for their hard work, too.
