A total of 265 lawmakers voted in favor of the expulsion, while 14 voted against and eight abstained, adopting the recommendation of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges contained in Committee Report No. 28.

Barzaga had previously been suspended twice for 60 days during his term over social media posts in which he accused fellow lawmakers and other government officials of misconduct.

: National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag said the agency is set to file criminal charges against Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga next week.

The planned charges stem from Barzaga’s social media posts alleging that the NBI was involved in assassination plots linked to the Senate shooting incident. According to the NBI, the allegations constitute violations of Article 154 (Unlawful Use of Means of Publication and Unlawful Utterances) and Article 142 (Inciting to Sedition) of the Revised Penal Code.

The agency is also pursuing an ethics complaint that seeks Barzaga’s removal from office.

: Engage Editor-in-Chief (EIC) Justin De Ocampo has secured a spot among the Top 40 Finalists of the Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines (OSLP) 2026, a national recognition program that honors the country’s most exemplary, service-driven, and purpose-oriented student leaders.

Organized by Transforming Advocates and Champions Inc. (TRAC Philippines), OSLP serves as a platform to highlight student leaders who demonstrate exceptional leadership, integrity, and commitment to meaningful impact within their institutions and communities. This year, the organization reported receiving more than 200 nominations from across the country.

"While I am grateful for this recognition, I know that every accomplishment is built on the support, mentorship, and collective efforts of many people," De Ocampo told Engage news writers.

De Ocampo will advance to the final stage of the search this September, which will be held in Baguio City. During this stage, finalists will undergo a series of evaluations designed to assess their advocacy work, leadership capacity, and community engagement.

The search will culminate in the TRAC Convention this October, also in Baguio City, where the Outstanding Student Leader of the Philippines for 2026 will be officially announced and awarded.

Today, June 1, marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of resilience, diversity, equality and identity, Pride Month. Throughout history, since the Stonewall Riots, Pride has stood at the forefront of change in recognizing diversity and equality among individuals in the community. A beacon of change in recognizing the epitome of one’s identity.

In healthcare, this month serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for equitable, accessible, and affirming care for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Historically, members of the community have faced barriers to healthcare, including discrimination, stigma, and disparities in access to services.

Today, healthcare professionals are called to uphold principles of respect, cultural humility, and patient-centered care by creating safe environments where every individual feels seen, valued, and supported.

Pride is all of us. Pride starts when each and every individual starts to accept the diversity within.
