: Classes today, September 4, will transition to an online synchronous modality, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academics announced. This adjustment is in line with Memorandum Circular No. 134, which mandates alternative learning measures in selected provinces across the country, including Cavite, and the suspension declared by Mayor Third Barzaga in the City of Dasmariñas, due to the southwest monsoon and poor air quality from the haze caused by severe forest fires in Indonesia.

However, clinical clerkships and student internships will continue with their rotations as scheduled.

: Malacañang has ordered the implementation of alternative learning modes today, September 4, in 15 provinces, including Cavite, under Memorandum Circular No. 134.

The directive comes amid the anticipated enhanced effects of the southwest monsoon and poor air quality in the National Capital Region due to haze reportedly caused by severe forest and peatland fires in Indonesia.

Following the memorandum, Dasmariñas Mayor Third Barzaga has suspended all face-to-face classes at all levels.

As of writing, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academics has yet to announce the learning continuity plan.

Today, August 31, we commemorate National Heroes Day, honoring the Filipinos whose courage and sacrifices helped shape our nation and paved the way for the freedoms we enjoy today.

The celebration traces back to Act No. 3827, which established the last Sunday of August as National Heroes Day in 1931. In 1952, President Elpidio Quirino restored the observance to the last Sunday of August through Administrative Order No. 190, reaffirming the day as a time to honor the nation’s heroes and their contributions to the Philippines. It was later moved to the last Monday of August under Republic Act No. 9492 in 2007, the schedule we follow today.

Across generations, Filipino heroes have fought for freedom, defended our dignity, and inspired others to stand for what is right. Their heroism reminds us that building a nation has always been a collective effort—shaped not only by the celebrated names in our history, but also by countless Filipinos whose courage and sacrifices have made a difference.

We remember. We honor. We carry their legacy forward.

Today, August 30, marks National Press Freedom Day, a reminder of the fundamental right to freely publish and share news, ideas, and opinions without censorship or undue interference.

This day is commemorated on the birth anniversary of Marcelo H. del Pilar, known by his pen name Plaridel and recognized under Republic Act No. 11699 as the Father of Philippine Journalism. A leading figure of the Propaganda Movement, Del Pilar used the written word to expose abuses under Spanish colonial rule and later served as editor of La Solidaridad, which became an important platform for calls for reform and greater freedoms for Filipinos.

Press freedom is a call to protect journalists and media workers, empowering them to seek the truth, inform the public, and hold those in power accountable without fear of intimidation or harassment. Upholding a free and independent press is an essential pillar of democracy and a voice for the people.

May the pen remain fearless, and may the truth never be silenced.

THE DYNASTY CONTINUES

: Dasmariñas Mayor Jennifer Austria-Barzaga has won the special election runoff as Congresswoman of the 4th Legislative District in the Province of Cavite, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) proclaimed today, August 30.

Barzaga achieved a landslide victory with 201,893 votes, filling the congressional seat previously held by expelled former Rep. Kiko Barzaga. This marks her second nonconsecutive term as Congresswoman, after serving in the 17th Congress.

This political shift in roles allows her son and incumbent vice mayor, Third Barzaga, to become the new mayor of the City of Dasmariñas.

: Classes from 2:30 pm onwards are suspended today, August 28, the Office of the Vice Chancellor announced. This follows Memorandum Circular No. 132, which suspends all classes in selected provinces in the country, including Cavite, due to the inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon.

However, clinical clerkships and student internships will proceed as scheduled.
