One of the factors behind Sen. B**g Go's top performance in the recent election was his flagship Malasakit Centers—a government project that has genuinely touched the lives of many poor Filipinos and was highly-prioritized during his stint as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health.
Hearing a lot of Malasakit Stories firsthand while conducting surveys across three regions in Mindanao during the last election, I witnessed how the said initiative made a huge impact to many Filipinos--it helped them manage overwhelming hospital bills, protect their land titles from being used as collateral, and avoid burdensome loan applications for medical expenses.
Yet, Sen. B**g Go didn't stopped there.
While Malasakit Centers focus on reducing the financial burden of medical care, Sen. B**g Go also pushed for the establishment of Super Health Centers. These facilities, which are built in remote, underserved areas, provide immediate and basic health services to residents who have limited access to medical care.
Both initiatives address very important gaps in our healthcare system.
As we look ahead, many are hoping that the new Senate chairman of the Health committee will recognize the proven impact of these programs and prioritize their continued expansion and improvement. The testimonials I heard from ordinary Filipinos shows that these Malasakit and Super Health Centers aren't just policy initiatives—they are lifelines to those who need it most.
