"Social networking is broad and varied. There are countless others such as Snap Chat, Tik-Tok, Instagram, and Reddit. In addition to some of the more obvious channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Youtube), not to mention the various forums and websites where users engage and communicate. Even for large organizations with dedicated resources, it can be a daunting challenge to try to keep up with all of these networks. Instead, concentrate on only certain social networks that
give your target audience a good opportunity to communicate.
And you need to consider your audience to that end. Your organization and industry's unique existence will have a major effect on where you will find your audience. For their image-sharing sites, retailers who offer high-quality, visually beautiful products should certainly look at Pinterest and Instagram. If your company needs word-of-mouth, then Twitter is probably right for you. If you need to meet a knowledgeable audience, the response is probably LinkedIn. This doesn't mean you need to restrict yourself to a single site for social media. But you will be able to optimize your impact, and your performance, by knowing your audience and concentrating your efforts on the most important pages."
