DAVAO CITY COUNCIL SEEKS PROBE INTO RENE BATERBONIA’S DEATH

The Davao City Council has called for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation into the deaths of Ateneo basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

Councilor Antoinette “Petite” Principe said the probe aims to establish the facts and ensure accountability if warranted. The council also urged a review of student-athlete training and team-building protocols.

Members offered prayers for Baterbonia, honoring him as a key figure in the DAVRAA Eagles’ historic gold medal victory in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa.

Hi everyone,

For those who would like to pay their respects and offer prayers for Rene, he will be brought to Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School for a day during his wake. This will give his friends, classmates, teachers, teammates, and supporters an opportunity to visit, pray, and honor his memory.

Rene touched so many lives through his kindness, hard work, and love for the game. We know that many people in the Ateneo community would like the chance to say their final goodbye.

We will post an update once the schedule is finalized. Thank you for your continued prayers, love, and support for Rene and his family during this difficult time.
