[𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦] 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝘇 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

‎Fourth-year student from Davao de Oro State College – Maragusan Branch, Jacky Nitz Daite claimed two top honors at the 3rd International Intercollegiate Multidisciplinary Research Conference 2026 on August 22 to 23 at Davao de Oro State College – Maragusan Branch, securing first place in both the qualitative and interdisciplinary categories during the research congress.

‎Organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan – Poblacion, the two-day research congress carried the theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnerships” and brought together participants from different municipalities across Davao de Oro.
‎
‎Daite competed in the Higher Education qualitative category with her research titled “Life Behind the Scraps: A Phenomenological Study on Itinerant Waste Buyers.” She placed first among 14 participants, earning the awards for Best Research and Best Oral Presenter. For her achievement in the category, she received two certificates and two medals.
‎
‎For Daite, the research was more than an academic requirement. It was a topic that had been close to her heart since childhood. Her research was guided by her adviser, Sir Jay Mark D. Bantayan, MSc.
‎
‎During her presentation, Daite shared that she had often seen itinerant waste buyers while growing up and became curious about why they collected and bought discarded materials. Years later, when she began looking for a research topic, she remembered the waste buyers she had encountered as a child.
‎
‎Her childhood curiosity eventually led her to explore the lives and experiences of itinerant waste buyers, whom she described as underrecognized members of society. Through her study, Daite sought to bring attention to a group whose work is commonly seen in communities but whose experiences often remain unnoticed.
‎
‎Following her victory in the qualitative category, Daite advanced to the interdisciplinary category, where winners from the different research categories competed against one another. The finalists represented the Senior High School, Higher Education, and Faculty divisions across Business Research, Experimental, Mixed Methods, Quantitative, and Qualitative research.
‎
‎A total of 13 participants competed in the interdisciplinary category, with Daite being the final presenter. She admitted feeling nervous because she had to present last, but she faced the challenge and delivered her research presentation before the panel.
‎
‎Her presentation once again stood out among the finalists, earning her first place in the interdisciplinary category. She received another certificate and medal, along with a cash prize for the achievement. The awarding ceremony was held on August 23, where Daite received her recognitions for both categories.

‎The back-to-back victories marked another significant milestone in Daite’s academic journey, demonstrating how a childhood curiosity about people in her community eventually became an award-winning research study. Beyond the awards, Daite’s achievement highlights the value of research that gives attention to people whose contributions to society often remain unseen, proving that meaningful research can begin with something as simple as a question from childhood.

[𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦] 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 - 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳

Davao de Oro State College (DDOSC) - Maragusan Branch welcomed the new academic year with its General Orientation on August 13, 2026, at the DDOSC Covered Court. Organized by the Student Affairs and Services Unit (SASU), the activity gave students an opportunity to become more familiar with the people, offices, and services that are available to support them throughout their college journey.

The orientation was held in two sessions, with the morning program running from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and the afternoon program from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event started with the usual preliminaries, including a prayer, the Philippine National Anthem, the DDOSC Hymn, and the DDOSC March, before moving on to the introduction of college officials and personnel.

Students were also introduced to the different offices and services they may turn to during their time in the college. The morning session featured the presentation of academic and non-teaching personnel, as well as the various services under SASU, such as guidance and counseling, alumni affairs, student publication and yearbook, sports, and student discipline.

The afternoon session continued with more student-centered services. These included student organizations and the College Student Council, socio-cultural services, scholarships, library and learning resources, appraisal and testing, career and job placement, campus safety and security, records, and ICT services. The program ended with closing remarks and announcements for the students.

More than just an introduction to the college’s offices and personnel, the orientation helped students understand where they can seek assistance whenever they need it. As the first semester begins, the activity served as a helpful way for students to feel more informed, prepared, and connected to the DDOSC - Maragusan Branch community.

Davao de Oro State College-Maragusan Branch facilitated a successful Reorientation on Quality Management System (QMS) and Control of Documented Information (CDI) processes just this August 13, 2026 at the Audio Visual Room to refresh the understanding for the technical ideas and details regarding to further requirements, documents, respective roles and the effective implementation and continuity improvements.

Ma'am Princess May Q. Falconi, Quality Assurance Unit In-charge headed the main program as she explained the fundamentals and consequent details of the with said requirements such as the ISO requirements, QMS internal information and the responsibilities of the staff members, this was also intitiated by the Branch Director, Engr. Grace O. Tulang, PhD to diffuse the following significant information with regards to the program, which enlightened the staff.

Overall, the Reorientation has successfully brought forth back the ideas and pivotal technicalities to refresh the staff with the nature of their work and their responsibilities.

𝙷𝙰𝙿𝙿𝙴𝙽𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙽𝙾𝚆 | Davao de Oro State College (DDOSC) - Maragusan Campus is currently holding the Faculty Training-Workshop on Mixed Methods Research and Research Instrument Validation at the Flower Farm, New Albay, Maragusan, Davao de Oro.

The activity officially opened with an inspiring message from DDOSC-Maragusan Branch Director Dr. Grace Tulang, who emphasized that research is the future of Maragusan. She encouraged all faculty members to embrace research as a powerful tool for innovation, academic excellence, and community development. Dr. Tulang likewise expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Maria Carmen Zamora-Mabanglo, First District Representative of Davao de Oro, for her unwavering support to education and for graciously allowing the DDOSC-Maragusan faculty to conduct the training-workshop at her flower farm.

The program was further highlighted by the message of Hon. Tata Albarico, representing the offices of Municipal Mayor Hon. Cesar C. Colina Sr., Vice Mayor Hon. Osberth Yanong, First District Representative Hon. Maria Carmen Zamora-Mabanglo, and Provincial Governor Hon. Engr. Raul Mabanglo. Through the message conveyed, the local leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continuously support the initiatives and programs of the college, particularly those that strengthen research capabilities, faculty development, and quality higher education.

Currently sharing valuable insights and expertise is Dr. Porferia Sarana Poralan, PhD, Graduate School Program Coordinator of the University of the Immaculate Conception, who is guiding the participants through discussions on mixed methods research and research instrument validation.

As the workshop progresses, faculty members are actively engaging in learning experiences designed to enhance their research competencies and foster a stronger culture of research and innovation within the institution.

[IN PHOTOS] Rooted in Excellence: Cultivating Tomorrow’s Agricultural Leaders

The orientation program at Davao de Oro State College Maragusan Branch planted seeds of growth and vision for its agriculture students. Opening with prayers, hymns, and the welcome of Program Head Ms. Imogene G. Landuay, the preliminaries set a tone of discipline and purpose reminding students that their journey in agriculture is rooted in commitment and excellence.

Faculty and unit heads delivered impactful talks on VMGC, quality policies, and academic thrusts, while research, production, extension, and internationalization initiatives showcased the college’s drive to expand horizons. With laboratory orientation and practicum guidelines, students were reminded that agriculture is not just theory but hands-on practice, preparing them to cultivate knowledge that directly impacts communities and industries.

Momentum carried into student development with sessions on the handbook, 5S housekeeping, GAD advocacy, and the Agriculturist Licensure Exam briefing. Each segment was sharp and future-focused, rallying students to embrace discipline, inclusivity, and leadership. Closing with the FFPCC orientation, the program became more than a schedule it was a launchpad for future agriculturists ready to innovate, nurture, and harvest success.

The Entrepreneurship Department Orientation at Davao de Oro State College Maragusan Branch kicked off with energy and purpose, setting the stage for a new wave of innovators. From the opening prayer to the welcome remarks of Program Dean Sir Marcelino F. Cuyab, PhD, the program gave students a clear sense of direction and belonging as they embarked on their BS Entrepreneurship journey.

Faculty and staff delivered informative discussions on admission requirements, grading systems, and incubation lab rules reminders that discipline and creativity must go hand in hand. Each talk underscored the department’s mission to prepare students not just for academic success but for the challenges of building real enterprises.

The spotlight shone on the Society of Young Innovators (SYI), led by Dean Marcelino F. Cuyab, PhD, and SYI President Cherry G. Baguis, inspiring students to embrace collaboration and leadership. With closing remarks sealing the day, the orientation became more than a welcome it was a rallying call to dream big, work smart, and innovate boldly.
