NATA DE COCO, originally from the Philippines π΅π to the world π
Nata de coco is a chewy, translucent, jelly-like foodstuff that originated from the Philippines. It is most commonly sweetened as a healthy dessert, and can accompany many things including pickles, drinks, ice cream, puddings, and fruit mixes.
No, Nata de coco is not from Indonesia as claimed by some Indonesians. Nata de coco was invented in 1949 by TeΓ³dula Kalaw, a Filipino chemist working for the National Coconut Corporation (now the Philippine Coconut Authority).
It was originally conceived as an alternative to nata de piΓ±a, another gel-like Filipino dessert produced since the 18th century.
