Due to the continuing effects of Tropical Depression Verbena, ALL CLASSES in El Salvador City, across ALL LEVELS in both public and private schools, are suspended today, 25 November 2025.

El Salvador City remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 and is currently under a Heavy Rainfall Warning based on the latest DOST-PAGASA update. Several areas also remain flooded, prompting the extension of the suspension for everyone’s safety.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office confirms.

𝐂𝐂𝐄 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟 "𝐓𝐨 𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤" 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

‎CCE's Center for Academic Teaching and Innovative Learning (CATIL), in cooperation with the Kasayuran Publication, initiated a debate training and workshop to prepare for the first-ever debate cup on November 25, 2025.

‎Teams of three from the BAEL, BSOA, BSE, and BSSW programs attended the training on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the Discourse Domain.
‎
‎Seasoned, multi-awarded debaters of MSU-IIT's Debate Varsity (MIDV), Mark Socillo and Afidah Camar shared their knowledge and expertise in the field of debating as facilitators.
‎
‎Mr. Socillo discussed the format of a debate, the role of a speaker, and motion types. He emphasized its significance and the basic building blocks of a debate that could help the participants widen their scope of knowledge. The table was then opened for question and answer coming from the participants for some clarification.
‎
Ms. Afidah Camar also gave inputs on how debates should be framed, such as presenting a claim and composing rebuttals to strengthen their stance.
‎
‎To further enhance the debate participants' skills, the trainers facilitated a host of activities to help the debaters formulate opinions and strategize their future matches.
‎
‎Ms. Camar and Mr. Socillo shall also be among the adjudicators during the Debate Tournament this coming Tuesday, November 25.

As we continue celebrating the 8th Founding Anniversary of City College of El Salvador (CCE), the Center for Academic Teaching and Innovative Learning (CATIL), in coordination with the School Press and Cultural Affairs Office (SPreCO), proudly presents the 1st Interprogram Debate Competition on November 25, 2025.

This event gathers student debaters from across all programs to engage in meaningful discourse and showcase academic excellence. Through this competition, we aim to:

🔸Promote critical thinking, intellectual dialogue, and collaborative learning;
🔸Strengthen communication and analytical skills; and
🔸Provide a healthy platform for interprogram engagement.

𝐈𝐍-𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | The City College of El Salvador’s Bachelor of Arts in English Language conducted its Dasig Batbat Series 8: “When research becomes voice: Turning Everyday Language into Insight, Agency, and Impact”. The event was attended by 3rd and 4th year students on November 17, 2025 at the Mini Theatre, El Salvador City.

BAEL Program Head, Ms. Sharon Rose Patalinghog led the opening remarks. BAELA Adviser on Operations, Mr. Jan Paul Daigdigan introduced the keynote speaker --- Associate Professor Irish Mae Fernandez-Dalona PhD, Department of English Chairperson, and Center for General Education Director at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology.

Ms. Fernandez-Dalona highlighted the significance of language research on how it can be a tool to uncover various narratives and empower communities. As she stated, “Language is Power, by doing Language research, you are finding your own voice. By doing research on a certain community—you are trying to help them find their voice.”

She gave ideas on the possible topics they can pursue for their theses. Her talk also offered practical tips for the juniors in doing research.

After her discussion, BAEL Senior students Rheygie Saguing, Shantal Gagate, and Angel Frances Wabe presented their research entitled “Acceptance or Tolerance? LGBTQIA+ Representation in Filipino Children’s Picture Books”.

Researchers Jianne Baclayon, Lorhen Siembre, and Vincent Macanip also presented their research entitled “Beauty with Advocacy: An Ecolinguistic Perspective on the Advocacy Speeches of Miss Earth on Environmental Sustainability”.

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Adrianne M. Clemen led the closing remarks. He emphasized that they want the BAEL program to be proactive, solving community progress through language.

The Da'Sig Batbat Series aims to provide an avenue for BAEL students to engage in healthy, meaningful discourse on matters relevant to the academic community.
