We often complain about floods and corruption in the government, yet we rarely acknowledge our own contribution to the problem.
Flooding occurs not only because the funds for flood control projects were stolen, but also because many of us have done little to nothing to help prevent it.
We fail to plant trees, we neglect proper waste disposal, and we do not take our responsibility to care for the environment seriously.
Yes, corruption is a grave issue and it must be stopped at all costs. And just like you, I also cry out for those corrupt officials to return what they have stolen and to implement not only better flood control projects, but also comprehensive plans to protect the environment as a whole.
But while we wait for that, would it not be better if we also did our part? We cannot simply wait forever and place the blame entirely on others. Raising awareness is valuable, but the most meaningful contribution begins at home. Yes, at home!
How? Well, by practicing proper waste management, planting even a single tree, and educating ourselves about climate change. It might not be big but, at least, we can already make a difference.
At the end of the day, true change will not come if we only keep on pointing fingers. It will come when we also look at ourselves and ask, βWhat have I done to help?" Remember, our small actions matter more than we realize, and when combined, they can heal not only the environment, but also secure the future for the next generation.
Let us not wait for the government to solve everything, nor should we expect it to. Let us choose to act today, even in small and simple ways. Every tree we plant, every piece of trash we dispose of properly, and every effort we make is a step toward a future where floods are no longer symbols of neglect, but reminders of how nature can thrive when we finally learn to care for it.
