Is the world moving too fast, or am I just moving too slowly?
Have you ever stood at a crosswalk, watching the world move without you?
Sometimes, it feels like the world is moving too fast. Or maybe you are simply moving slower than everyone else. Either way, you find yourself standing there, watching people cross toward lives you know nothing about, wondering how you are supposed to catch up when you do not even know where you are going.
The lights change. People cross toward lives you know nothing about. Some are beginning again, some are being loved, some are carrying flowers while others carry grief.
And you stand there, not because you do not want to move forward, but because, for a while, you no longer know where to go.
You watch your friends become the people they once dreamed of being, and sometimes, it hurts to see the world continue while your own life feels still.
But the world does not stop.
Morning comes to the grieving. Flowers open beside the lonely. Someone falls in love while someone else learns how to live without it.
A child is born while another family says goodbye. Life keeps turning, even when your heart is still trying to understand.
Perhaps this is not life leaving you behind. Perhaps it is reminding you that no one is meant to stand in the same place forever.
You are crossing through a different season, carrying a different loss, arriving at a different time.
So if you find yourself at that crosswalk someday, do not spend too long counting the people who have already crossed.
Let them go.
Be happy for those who found their way. Grieve what you need to grieve. But do not mistake your pause for the end of your journey.
You do not have to run to catch up with the world. You only have to remember that you are still here.
And when the light changes, take the next step.
Because the world may continue without you, but your life is still waiting for you to live it.
