Say Yes by FAITH

The task God gave me wasn’t easy—but He helped me through it. While we won’t always be spared difficulties in His assignments, we can—like Caleb and Joshua—face them knowing, “The Lord is with us” (v. 9).

Colorful Hope

In the Noahic covenant, God made an unconditional, eternal covenant—or promise—with all mankind and all living creatures to never again destroy the earth and all life by a flood (Genesis 9:9-11). To seal this covenant, God “set [his] rainbow in the clouds” (v. 13) as a visible symbol of His promise. The Hebrew word for rainbow, qesheth, is also translated “bow”—a weapon. One commentator notes: “In what is a radical reinterpretation of divine power, the bow ceases to function as a sign of God’s militancy and begins to function as a sign of God’s grace. A rainbow is a bow without an arrow.” While the rainbow gives us great encouragement today, assuring us of God’s mercy and grace, God actually set the rainbow as a reminder to Himself of His “everlasting covenant” with “all living creatures of every kind on the earth” (v. 16).

You Can Be Joyful

Inevitably, trouble will come into the lives of God's people. Few things sap one's energy, joy and enthusiasm quicker than nagging doubt, pain and isolation. These kinds of things are tools the enemy uses to steal our joy. But we can defeat the enemy by believing that God is always present and knows what we are going through. He has a plan in place to help us. That's why the apostle Paul encourages us to "Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying" (Romans 12:12)

The apostle Peter warned us: “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” He tempts us in various ways and uses discouragement in suffering and persecution to try to draw us away from our faith in Jesus. Peter challenged his first readers and us today to “be alert and of sober mind” (1 Peter 5:8). We depend on the Holy Spirit so we won’t let the enemy cause us to surrender the fight and bring us down.

Monday Motivation

Don't ever find yourself giving the "benefit of the doubt"— doubt has NO benefit.

Do you remember the things you were worrying about a year ago? How did they work out? Didn't you waste a lot of fruitless energy?

Psalm 56:3-4 "But when I am afraid, I will put my confidence in you. Yes I will trust the promises of God. And since I am trusting him, what can a mere man do to me?"

The gospel of John; 1, 2, and 3 John; and Revelation were all written by John, who called himself “the disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23; 21:20). As one of the Twelve, he was part of Christ’s inner circle, which included his brother James and Peter. They witnessed Jesus’ transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–8) and the raising of Jairus’ daughter (Luke 8:49–56). And they were nearby in the garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36–38).

Christ’s love motivated John and is a central theme of his writings. We see this clearly stated in 1 John: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (3:1) and “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us” (v. 16). The magnitude of God’s love and how we’re called to love in response is a key theme of 1 John 4:7–21.
