Congresswoman Karen Lagbas and Governor Juliette Uy have been accused of being "traitors" and "pretenders" in the Duterte movement due to their alleged use of the Duterte name to gain political capital.

Misamis Oriental Governor Juliette Uy has sparked controversy with her statement to legalize illegal mining and quarrying operations in Opol and Manticao, despite concerns over environmental damage, potential corruption.

Governor's Statement: "Kabalo ko naay illegal mining ug illegal quarry ug kana inyong gi ingon nga Gold mine sa opol ato nang himoon ug legal para tanan." Gov. Uy said

Authorities in Misamis Oriental have been cracking down on illegal mining activities, particularly in Opol, where Chinese nationals and Filipino-Chinese individuals have been involved.

- May 2023 joint operation by government agencies resulted in the arrest of 18 suspects, including 5 Chinese nationals, for alleged illegal mining activities along the Iponan River in Opol, Misamis Oriental. The authorities seized heavy equipment worth millions of pesos.

- Recent Arrests in July 2025, seven Chinese nationals were arrested during an environmental law enforcement operation in Opol, with Php 18.9 million worth of mining equipment confiscated.

Documents were found buried at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail in Initao on the evening of July 2.

This paper interviewed the driver who delivered the documents. Speaking on condition of anonymity, he said the documents came from the Capitol’s Human Resource Office.

“They were unnecessary documents, and the HR office had run out of space, which is why they decided to bury them in Initao,” the driver said.
