Ending the event with new learnings and smiles, thatโs how the leadership camp with the theme, โBOREALIS: Boosting and Reigniting Accountable Leaders in an Innovative Serviceโ for the new Recognized Student Organization (RSO) and Supreme Student Council (SSC) for Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) leaders and officers was led to success by the student leaders of the Central Student Council (CSC) of Mary the Queen College Pampanga Inc. (MQCPI) held at MQC Function Hall last October 27 and 28, 2023.
The said event was hosted by Mr. Ivan Santos, CSC President, and Mr. Clark Macaspac, alumni of the school and former CSC Treasurer, and several student leaders from SSCs for Junior and Senior High Schools, plus RSOs namely Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA), Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES), Hospitality Management Society (HMS), Developers Alliance and Technology Association (DELTA), Gawad Kalinga (GK), Society of Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports (SPES), Society of Elite Education Students (SEEds), Campus Ministry for College, The Papyrus (TP), The Parchment (TP-HS) and ASLAG Performing Arts, have attended where they were randomly sorted in groups like Black Draco, Red Ursa, Pink Cassiopeia, Yellow Pisces, Orange Leo, Brown Ta**us, Green Andromeda, and Blue Lyra.
The event for Day 1 started with an Opening Prayer and Singing of the National Anthem followed by welcoming remarks and an introduction of house rules by the CSC Advisor and Event Facilitator, Mr. Ferrywin D. San Agustin, an energizer/getting-to-know activity led by the hosts and Mr. San Agustin. Then the buddy-buddy system was announced by the facilitators and hosts requiring the participants to have a partner during the event. After an exciting round of activity and a short break for morning snacks, Mr. San Agustin continued to talk as he shared his knowledge about School Forms and Processes, and he also introduced the people to talk to when arranging events. This was followed by an hour of break to let the student leader rest for a while and take their lunch.
Everyoneโs the winner in the team-building event where every group played different team-building games from Gutterball, Rope Relay, Pass the message, Dr. Kwak Kwak, to Longest Relay, where each groupโs trust, unity, and socializing skills were tested as the facilitators restricted the group leaders of speaking.
After the sweat-breaking challenges, Mr. King Gaspar F. Calma, an alumnus, former Ambassador of Peace and Goodwill, former Vice-President of CSC, and now a cadet and jail officer, spoke things about his experiences as a student of the school, becoming an aspirant student leader in the school, his journey of becoming a student leader, and more inspiration leadership journey that led him to his current profession. This was followed by a question and answer activity where the Editor-in-chief of The Papyrus, Ms. Sharmaine Espinoza earned a token from the said speaker. Finally, after many activities, talks, and games, Day 1 was filled with knowledge as takeaways because of the Mentoring and Workshop led by hosts, facilitators, and guests before the first day of the event ended.
Another day started on Day 2 with energetic participants as they began their day with Zumba dancing and stretching exercises. After a short snack break, the event continued for the third seminar headed by Mr. Mark Gil Tuazon, another alumnus of the school, where he talked about Servant Leadership and some reminders about student leadership, and facilitated some short activities for the participants.
Filled with another burst of energy after eating their lunch, the participants proceeded to the next part of the event, the real team building where the participants of their respective colored groups started their tedious hard work, understanding, unity, and leadership in accomplishing their tasks in different stations. The Orange Leo emerged victorious in the said event after finishing their tasks ahead of the other groups.
The participants were given time to rest after the tiring event and prepare for the last event of the day, the Leadership Social Night. It was an event that put the cherry on top as the student leaders had fun socializing where they shortly disregarded their position or titles as everyone bonded together. It was also the part of the event that let the participants show their talents on the stage.
โThe two greatest days in your life are the days you are born, and the day you find out whyโ said by Mark Twain, was the quote that earned Ms. Espinoza earned her token.
