We, the Fourth-Year students of the Political Science Society of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, stand in solidarity with the rest of the nation in commemorating the declaration of Martial Law under the dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

We are encouraging MSU-IIT students to join us for the Solidarity Walk on Monday, September 22, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The assembly will take place at the CASS Lawn, then proceed to the Institute Lawn, and finally end at Rizal Park. We also encourage you to wear black, and you may bring your own placards.

We sometimes agree that college isn't about being excellent or always on top. In our minds, it's a journey of uncertainty and a new quest of experience, and all we can do is show up, comply with every requirement, and just let things be—academically.

However, in a peculiar class of forty, a trio stood up, conquered complacency, and made every struggle a stepping stone to do more in the university. Amidst the silent battles, hidden cries, and unseen pain in our journey, this trio firmly embodies what perseverance, passion, and dedication can do.

𝙎𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙜𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚. The right to vote not only empowers citizens to choose their leaders but also strengthens political accountability and civic engagement. In healthy democracies, voter participation is essential in ensuring that governance efficiently addresses the people's needs.

As this year's midterm elections approach, Sui Generis recently launched a voter education campaign on April 28-29, 2025, in partnership with the MSU-IIT Institute for Policy Innovation and Leadership (IPIL) and the Department of Political Science. One of the campaign's highlights was the"𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲", a voting hub where MSU-IIT students, faculty, staff, and the visiting participants from St. Peter's College (SPC) and Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC) selected their top 3 preferred senatorial candidates. The hub has provided QR codes containing the full details of these candidates — their educational background, notable achievements, track record, and political stances on various issues in the country.

In the said hub, 𝐁𝐚𝐦 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 of Katipunan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KANP) leads the senatorial race with a total of 72 votes — 37 Voting Hub voters selected him as their top choice, 24 as their second, and 11 as their third. 𝐊𝐢𝐤𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧 of the Liberal Party (LP) follows in second place with 59 votes, while independent candidate 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐢 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐳𝐚 ranked third with 43 votes. Other candidates received varying levels of support across the preference rankings. However, several lesser-known aspirants, mostly independents or members of minor parties, garnered no votes from the voting hub poll.

Although this activity did not reach the entire campus population due to its limited exposure and duration, it stands as a timely reminder of the importance of knowing one’s candidates and voting wisely. In an age of rapid technological advancement and widespread misinformation, finding factual and reliable information — especially online — has become increasingly difficult. As Filipino citizens, it is our responsibility to ensure that our votes create positive ripples of change. This begins with our personal efforts, such as fact-checking claims, consulting credible sources, and critically evaluating the track records and platforms of those who seek public office. In doing so, we contribute to building a more just, informed, and democratic Philippines.

As the 2025 Philippine Elections draw near, we turned to the youth—students with bold ideas and unwavering hope—to share their thoughts on the importance of youth participation in elections. Why must they rise, speak, and stand at the frontlines of change?

Because this moment isn’t just about casting votes. It’s about claiming a 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.
Every voice matters. Every vote shapes the nation.

𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙖 𝙬𝙧𝙖𝙥!

As the back-to-back voter’s empowerment campaign concluded, youth are now ready to decide. Equipped with the guest speakers’ wisdom on choosing the right leaders for the upcoming election, fighting disinformation, and fact checking, indeed voters were enlightened and guided towards transforming the Philippines to a better one.

The seminar proper last April 29, entitled 𝒀𝑶𝑼𝒕𝒉 𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆: 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒑𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 2025 𝑬𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, was filled with insightful talks from resource speakers and interactive activities not just for the Sui Generis participants but also from learners and mentors from other institutions like St. Peter’s College (SPC) and the Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC). Indeed, youth political participation is a shared commitment for the future.

From here on, let us be reminded that our votes are not just for ourselves but also to people deprived of having the opportunity to be informed. Every shade in the ballot must be backed with factual information, critical thinking, and accountability. As the beacon of hope, let us make our votes count—𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦, 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐢𝐬𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐢!

Last April 28, 2025 marks the beginning of the 2-day voter’s empowerment initiative organized by the Policy Center for Governance, Public Leadership and Management Institute for Policy Innovation and Leadership in partnership with 3rd-Year BA Political Science students. With the grand opening of the Ballot Hub booth, the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) lobby is indeed election-day ready.

Beyond fun over interactive activities, students and faculty members deepened their understanding about the senatorial candidates. So youth, let's boldly exercise our right—𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒎. 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒃𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒈𝒊. 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒊𝒔𝒂!
