Around 2024, utility forums started filling with oddly specific complaints.
People said their homes had become “too aware” of routines.
Not unsafe. Just unusually adaptive.
Smart energy systems were originally marketed as invisible assistants. Quiet automation. Lower bills. Fewer wasted kilowatts. But archived setup screenshots from early beta apps show something different. Some systems tracked kettle usage, curtain timing, even how long bathroom lights stayed on after midnight.
Over time, people adjusted their behavior around the software instead of the opposite.
A few energy dashboards even rewarded “predictable living.”
Nothing proves anything unusual.
Still… it’s interesting how quickly efficiency started shaping daily habits instead of simply measuring them.
