The hourglass is tilting into the void, and it won’t be long until it clatters to the ground.

The hourglass is tilting, but it remains steady as time stands suspended in the air—but it won't be for long.

𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘: 'Tumandok' directors bag Gawad Urian '25 awards

Two Centralian filmmakers, Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay and Richard Jeroui Salvadico, were named Best Director for their film "Tumandok" at the 48th Gawad Urian Awards held at De La Salle University, Manila last October 11.

The film, which centers on the stories and struggles of Indigenous communities—particularly the Ati community, has been widely praised for its cultural authenticity and storytelling.

"This award validates something we've always believed: that the stories of ordinary people, their struggles, their resilience, their quiet dignities, deserve to be seen and heard. It tells us that cinema can be a bridge, that it can make visible what society often chooses to overlook," expressed Sumagaysay.

Additionally, she noted that this award goes beyond personal validation, dedicating it to the people that shared their stories with them.

"This recognition belongs to the communities who trusted us with their truths. They opened their lives to us, shared their pain and hopes, and allowed us to translate their reality into film. As co-directors, we see ourselves not as outsiders documenting subjects, but as vessels for collective storytelling. The Gawad Urian acknowledges not just our craft, but the courage and humanity of those whose stories we had the privilege to tell," she added.

Furthermore, the film also won three other major awards at the same event: Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Music—which made it the most awarded film.

The Gawad Urian Awards, established by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino in 1977, is one of the most prestigious award-giving bodies in Philippine cinema.

𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦: GLE Hiraya seizes Valorant title at MassKara UniEsports Arena '25

Central Philippine University Golden Lions Esports' (CPU-GLE) Valorant team, GLE Hiraya, roared back to glory after being crowned champions in the Valorant Tournament of MassKara UniEsports Arena, held at TNC Bacolod Downtown, October 11-12.

GLE Hiraya advanced to the main event after dominating the regional qualifier on September 27 at TNC La Salle, finishing first with 15 points to secure an Upper Bracket spot.

“We were originally GLE Pewpew… We had bad losses in our rookie years. That's when we chose Hiraya, as a symbol of our aspiration to make it to the big leagues. We were able to make that aspiration come true, participating in national competitions and constantly taking down teams that participate in UAAP Esports, such as UST, ADMU, and ADU," said Anthony John Aparicio, GLE Hiraya team member.

He added that building good habits early on makes a big difference, highlighting the importance of time management, consistent practice, and facing bigger challenges to grow as a player.

Moreover, RJ Lester Seron, a second-year Computer Science student known in-game as “soz,” was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his standout performance during GLE Hiraya’s championship run.

The team was composed of fourth-year students Anthony John Aparicio, Jan Karl Soloma, Steven Lorenz Gilbolinga, and Jim Eduard Perocho, along with second-year players RJ Lester Seron and Lucky Eduard Figueroa.

The MassKara UniEsports Arena is an annual collegiate esports event that brings together university teams nationwide, where GLE Hiraya emerged victorious against top contenders from STI West Negros University, La Salle Bacolod, and TUP Visayas.
