Ilonggos are very lucky to have a government who credits our city's progress to all of us. While our civil servants push for programs and policies to make our lives comfortable, it depends on us Ilonggos on how we are going to participate and help them implement, develop and improve these people-centered initiatives.

The government is not just Mayor Raisa Treรฑas or those who work at the City Hall, because like what she's always saying, Iloilo City continues to become a better city for everyone because it is all of us who makes it possible.

Iloilo City was given again a spotlight on mainstream news thru Bilyonaryo News Channel (BNC) as Mayor Raisa Treรฑas shared the Iloilo City Government's free medicine and medical assistance program called "MediSen+". But more than a government aid for senior citizens and PWDs, MediSen+ heart and soul came from a personal inspiration: her lola.

A good leader knows how to be a good follower and a good follower because true leadership grows from understanding collaboration, obedience, and service.

As she thanked the people of Iloilo City for being part of the 89th Charter Day celebration, Mayor Raisa Treรฑas, the first woman mayor of Iloilo City doesn't take the credit alone, rather, she acknowledges every Ilonggo who spare a moment to share their wisdom, skill and heart for the development of the city.

For her, the Iloilo City Government under her leadership is not only those who work inside the City Hall and its offices. The Iloilo City Government is all Ilonggos who participate, who help and who care towards a better, inclusive and welcoming Iloilo City.

Ilonggos do appreciate people who genuinely care for our elderly kasimanwas, most especially those who need utmost attention in times of calamities. Last week, Mayor Raisa Treรฑas quickly responded to a report on Tatay Vicente from Mandurriao. This indeed showed that her heart, as well as the heart of our local government here in Iloilo City, prioritizes the welfare of our elderly Ilonggos.

Today, as we commemorate the meaningful life of late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., let us appreciate the evolution of our city's Diversion Road which bears the name of this hero.

With our non-stop rise to progress, we should always look back to the people who fought for our democracy like Ninoy. Freedom is essential in a society's socio-economic development like what is happening in our beloved city right now.

Mayor Raisa Treรฑas message for the first anniversary of the Atipan Center emboldened her personal mission of providing any form of "care" for every Ilonggo. But the Atipan Center is not just a functioning unit of her office, but a symbol of her commitment as Iloilo City's MOM.

For Ninong Ry, public markets were not really a place where you can stay longer after you buy ingredients for your favorite food. But Iloilo City showed him that a merkado publiko can make you roam around and buy more than you need in your kitchen.

As a city of gastronomy, public markets are a strong birthplace of tender juicy happiness. That is why it brought us genuine smiles upon hearing that our favorite online ninong loves our markets, particularly the Iloilo Terminal Market.

It is another testament that here in Iloilo, public spaces like Super, the Iloilo Central Market and all our redeveloped public markets can transform physically without removing its real cultural identity to their suki.

That is what real people-centered progress looks like.

Much of the Philippines' famous streets for the past centuries had faded as citizens turn to wider avenues and boulevards in high-end business centers rise. But Iloilo City's Calle Real, now J. M. Basa Street, refuses to bow down. Efforts then and now are being made to keep it more relevant not just in the history and economic activity of the city but in everyday lives of ordinary Ilonggos.

As Iloilo City continues to rise to progress as one of the most progressive and livable urban centers in the country, Calle Real has become its first in line in promoting local tourism as it shows the world the unique living symbol of Iloilo's hard work, simplicity and inclusivity that many cities are trying to emulate.
