A powerful magnitude 8.7–8.8 earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on July 30, 2025, triggered widespread tsunami warnings and advisories across the Pacific.

A Tsunami Warning is issued when a major tsunami is expected to cause significant danger to life and property, requiring immediate evacuation, while a Tsunami Advisory is issued for smaller waves that may pose moderate risk, advising people to take precautions but without the same urgency.

Russia: Warning issued – Waves up to 4m in Kamchatka; coastal evacuations underway.

Japan: Warning/advisory issued – 1m+ waves expected; evacuations in Hokkaido and eastern Japan; up to 900,000 evacuated.

Tonga: No major advisory – Pacific islands were broadly alerted.

California: Watch issued – Official tsunami watch in place, threat being evaluated.

Oregon: Watch issued – Official tsunami watch in place.

Washington: Watch issued – Official tsunami watch in place.

Alaska: Warning issued for Aleutians – Tsunami warning for the Aleutian Islands.

British Columbia: No major advisory – Pacific coasts on alert as precaution.

Mexico, Peru, Ecuador: No major warning – Monitoring continues.
