San Agustin Institute of Technology, Inc. (SAIT) conducted a Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) Orientation on August 20, 2026, at the SAIT Gymnasium. Described as โan expression of a renewed Church in the Philippines,โ the event gathered students, particularly freshmen, to help them understand their place in a bigger community and remind them that they are not alone.
The event was officially started by the Campus Minister, Mr. Franciscano A. Mutia, LPT, MATRE, who welcomed the students and shared three important emphases: Connection over Perfection, A Safe Space for Every Story, and The Power of Personal Encounter.
โ๐๐ข๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ด๐ต๐ฐ๐ณ๐ช๐ฆ๐ด ๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด,โ Mr. Mutia emphasized, reminding the students that the gathering was not like a classroom recitation where they needed to give perfect answers. Instead, it was a space where they could connect, share, and listen to one another.
He also emphasized the importance of creating a safe space for every story, where students could share their experiences and encounters with God. Everyone deserves someone who is willing to listen, while every participant is encouraged to listen without judgment and respect the stories shared by others.
Following the opening session was the introduction of the event's speaker, Dinah S. Mutia, PhD-CAR, who discussed the meaning of the Church and the Basic Ecclesial Community. She emphasized that โ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฉ๐ถ๐ณ๐ค๐ฉ ๐ช๐ด ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ, ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฐ๐ฅ,โ reminding the students that the Church is not only a physical place but also a community of people united in faith.
Mrs. Mutia also introduced the three pillars of BEC: Word, Communion, and Mission. Under the pillar of Word, students were encouraged to reflect personally on the Gospel and share using their own experiences. Participants were reminded to use โIโ when sharing, avoid giving unsolicited advice, listen without judgment, and practice confidentiality to maintain a safe and welcoming space.
The event concluded with the closing remarks from the CMV Vice President, followed by the synthesis and evaluation led by Mr. Franciscano Mutia. He reminded everyone that despite having different religions, all students are included and welcomed in the community.

The BEC Orientation became more than an introduction to a school activity. It became an opportunity for students to connect, listen, reflect, and recognize that every person has a place in the community. Through gatherings like this, SAIT continues to encourage students to strengthen not only their relationship with one another but also their relationship with God.
