VALENCIA CITY, BUKIDNON โ San Agustin Institute of Technology, Inc. (SAIT) conducted an Anti-Hazing Forum at the SAIT Gymnasium with the theme โBeyond Hazing: Protecting Student Dignity Through Guidance, Law, and Accountability.โ The activity gathered college students, faculty members, and student leaders in a unified call to promote safe, respectful, and dignified campus spaces.
The program formally opened with opening remarks from the College Supreme Government (CSG) President, Ms. Cynthia Jane Pepito, who emphasized the importance of student solidarity in standing against hazing and all forms of abuse. This was followed by the Statement of Purpose and introduction of the forum theme delivered by CSG Vice President Mr. Ralph Rowen Canceller, who highlighted the need for awareness, prevention, and accountability within the academic community.
The first session was led by Fr. Leonardo P. Adaptar, MAED, RGC, LPT, who provided foundational insights on anti-hazing. Approaching the issue through a guidance lens, he emphasized the importance of protecting studentsโ mental health and dignity, stating that โprevention is better than cure.โ His discussion encouraged students to choose compassion and responsibility over harmful traditions.
An orientation on the schoolโs Anti-Hazing Policy was then presented by Sir Rian P. Maisog, PhD, who also shared his own encounters with hazing cases. He underlined the institutionโs firm commitment to implementing policies that safeguard students and ensure a secure learning environment.
To further deepen the discussion, the second resource speaker, Mrs. Sheila Rose T. Lumaygay, LPT, MMBM, JD, discussed Republic Act No. 11053, also known as the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018. She clarified the rights of students, the responsibilities of organizations, and the legal consequences for those who violate the law, reminding everyone that ignorance of the law excuses no one.
An open forum followed, allowing students to ask questions and raise concerns regarding hazing and related issues. The interactive exchange demonstrated the studentsโ willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue and contribute to building a culture of accountability.
As a strong symbol of unity and commitment, an Anti-Hazing Pledge was led by CSG Senator Mr. Ronald Cerezo, with students collectively affirming their stand against hazing. The program concluded with closing remarks from CSG Senator Mr. Mikko Panes, who left the audience with a powerful reminder: โGipaskwela ta sa atung ginikanan aron makat-on, dili para bunalan.โ
The Anti-Hazing Forum served not only as an educational platform but also as a reaffirmation of SAITโs dedication to protecting student dignity through guidance, law, and collective responsibility.
