The Philippine Normal University North Luzon (PNUNL), through its Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit, continued its commitment in advancing gender equality and safety through the 2nd phase of Project GAD Cares, held on October 29, 2025.

Anchored on the theme β€œUNITEd for a VAW-free Philippines,” the activity gathered community members, barangay officials, and a legal expert in a unified effort to promote awareness on Violence Against Women (VAW) and strengthen legal literacy among participants.

Hosted by Mr. Patrik Joshua E. Balajadia, the event opened with a Statement of Purpose from Dr. Raquel R. Geronimo, Head of the GEDI Unit, who underscored the university’s ongoing commitment to gender advocacy and the power of education in combating gender-based violence.

On behalf of Barangay Captain Rogelio C. Sanchez, Kagawad Saturnino Velasco conveyed his support for the initiative, underscoring the significance of implementing gender awareness programs within their barangay.

The program’s highlight was the Legal Awareness Lecture titled β€œKnow Your Rights,” delivered by Atty. Arvee M. Butac, who provided participants with essential knowledge on their legal rights and protection mechanisms. The lecture aimed to simplify legal processes and encourage individuals to seek justice without fear or hesitation.

An Open Forum followed, fostering an interactive dialogue between participants and the guest speaker. The exchange allowed attendees to clarify legal concerns, share experiences, and gain practical insights into applying the law in real-life situations.

LATE UPLOAD

The Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit (GEDIU) successfully conducted the GFPS Assembly and Orientation on October 10, 2025 at Innohub Building, Conference Room 1. The activity gathered members of the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) from various offices, departments, and student organizations within the PNUNL system to strengthen the university’s collective commitment to gender mainstreaming and gender-responsive governance.

The assembly began with opening remarks from Dr. Raquel R. Geronimo who emphasized the vital role of the GFPS in advancing gender equality and promoting a gender-fair academic environment. This was followed by an overview of the GAD framework, policies, and mandates which provided participants with a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities as GFPS members.

During the orientation, the participants were introduced to the structure, functions, and expected outputs of the GFPS, highlighting its alignment with the university’s vision of creating a safe, inclusive, and VAWC-free community. Interactive discussions and open forums encouraged members to share insights, propose initiatives, and reaffirm their dedication to promoting gender sensitivity across university programs and operations.

The activity concluded with a message of commitment from the Head of the GEDI unit, who expressed appreciation for the members’ active participation and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration in implementing gender-responsive policies and activities. The GFPS Assembly and Orientation served as an empowering platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and reinforcing the collective resolve of the PNU North Luzon community toward a gender-fair campus.
