President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. admitted he was having difficulty choosing the next Department of Education (DepEd) secretary after Vice President Sara Duterte stepped down from her cabinet position last week.
In a media interview on Saturday, June 29, Marcos said he had to give himself “more time” to select the new education secretary to ensure the appointed person is qualified and suitable for the position.
The President also acknowledged the challenging nature of the DepEd’s work and thanked former secretary VP Sara for her contributions to the department.
Marcos previously announced his intention to name Duterte’s successor by the end of this week.
Duterte, who also resigned as vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, clarified last week that her resignation as DepEd chief was driven by her concern for teachers and students, not by weakness.
