Panique Makes Her Move, Secures Chess Silver at Municipal Meet 2026
KALIBO, AKLAN — Wadeford School’s Athena Sofia Leigh U. Panique, a Grade 6 learner, secured second place in Board 1 of the Girls Elementary Chess competition during the Municipal Meet 2026 on August 22 at Kalibo Pilot Elementary School.
Panique displayed focus, patience, and strategic thinking throughout the tournament, earning the silver medal against fellow elementary chess players from across the municipality.
Her podium finish added another achievement to Wadeford School’s growing list of accomplishments in the Municipal Meet, highlighting the learners’ preparation and determination in competitive sports.
Panique’s performance was supported by her coach, Lurimae A. Fernandez, and trainer, Payne John B. Holdana, who guided her in developing the skills and discipline needed for competitive chess.
Her silver-medal finish serves as an inspiration to fellow Waders to think strategically, embrace challenges, and strive for excellence both on and off the chessboard.
