With firm commitment and unwavering purpose, the CLEP 1 students of Notre Dame of Marbel Universityโ€“College of Law, in steadfast partnership with the Parole and Probation Office XII, stand resolute in building enduring bridges of hope and justice.

First launched in July during the studentsโ€™ initial exposure at the agency, this initiative has continued to the present through a series of short yet meaningful discussions. In these sessions, the students have shared vital legal knowledge with individuals under probation, focusing particularly on the Bill of Rights and the issue of illegal arrest โ€” reminding probationers not only of their basic rights but also of the Stateโ€™s duty to uphold and protect them.

Mr. Nolie E. Gentapanan, Officer-in-Charge of PPO Koronadal City, stressed that while these lessons may appear elementary, bringing them closer to the people creates real impact. According to him, intentional conversations on constitutional rights are powerful tools that empower and restore dignity. As likewise appreciated and commended by Atty. Rene M. Barrion, Director of the NDMU Legal Clinic, this continuing commitment to upholding justice made possible through the joint efforts of both institutions, stands as a concrete manifestation of their shared dedication to service and the rule of law.

This initiative, integrated into the monthly mandatory reporting of probationers, highlights the Marist legal communityโ€™s commitment to justice. By ensuring that accurate and accessible information reaches the people, they encourage greater awareness, responsibility, and participation in the pursuit of a just society.

Ultimately, the Marist Trail of CLEP illustrates that the fulfilment of justice is a continuous journey โ€” one grounded in education, animated by hope, and sustained through collective responsibility.

The art of crafting airtight pleadings took center stage as JD students from the NDMU College of Law joined lawyers and fellow law students in the Writeshop Seminar on Drafting and Analysis of Basic Criminal and Civil Complaints, organized by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) SocGen Chapter on August 30, 2025, at The Farm at Carpenter Hill.

This learning event brought together both the bench and the bar. Judge Paolo R. Aquino, broke down the intricacies of criminal complaints, offering practical guidance grounded in courtroom realities. Meanwhile, Atty. Eliseo P. Vencer II tackled the anatomy of civil complaints, stressing precision, clarity, and the power of well-structured arguments.

The writeshop drew a diverse crowd, including lawyers from South Cotabato and General Santos City, Marist lawyers, and law students, all eager to refine their legal drafting skills in a collaborative environment that blurred the line between classroom theory and professional practice.

Capping the event, IBP SocGen Chapter President, Atty. Romeo A. Sustiguer, Jr., delivered heartfelt closing remarks. He thanked the participants for their enthusiasm and extended special recognition to the NDMU College of Law community for their consistent support and active participation, underscoring their role in enriching IBPโ€™s continuing legal education efforts.

More than just a seminar, the writeshop was a shared exercise in sharpening minds and pens, reminding both students and practitioners that in law, every word carries weight, and every complaint tells a story that could shape the course of justice.

Law school is often described as a demanding journey that tests intellect, discipline, and resilience under relentless pressure. On August 30, 2025, the Amicus Curiae event, themed โ€œThe Intersection of Law and Mental Health,โ€ served as a timely reminder that behind every aspiring lawyer is a human being facing challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

The event officially started with remarks from Atty. Sylvie Blanche F. Tandog. She reminded the students that the lessons in this event go beyond the walls of law school โ€“ as they will serve as guiding lights for future endeavors where challenges never cease.

From the standpoint of those who once sat in the same chairs, Atty. Mary Methyl Joy B. Gabiazon, CPA, part of the pioneer batch of Marist Lawyers of NDMU, shared not only wisdom but also the truth of pursuing the dream of becoming a lawyer. She unraveled the importance of choosing study materials wisely to avoid being overwhelmed, of crafting answers that are responsive and examiner-friendly, and of being concise without sacrificing substance. She stressed that โ€œYourself is your greatest enemy and at the same time your best ally.โ€ In those words, she cast light upon the reality of law school โ€“ a battle of self-doubt, stress, resilience, and determination.

Atty. Gabiazon further reminded the students that while support systems do not eradicate the trials and tribulations of law school, they make the journey bearable. She added that it is equally crucial to rest โ€“ to allow oneself to unwind without guilt, to pause, and to recharge. Law school is not a sprint but a marathon โ€“ one that must be taken slowly, yet continuously.

The event concluded with a message from Atty. Paisal D. Tanjili, LL.M, the Dean of the College of Law. He expressed his appreciation to the Student Council, the Honors Society, and Lex Marista for their collaborative efforts in organizing the program, as well as to Atty. Tandog for leading this effort. He stressed the importance of teamwork, emphasizing that in law school, we draw strength by being together.

The Amicus Curiae event reminds us that to pursue the law is not to abandon oneโ€™s well-being, but to protect it as fiercely as we would protect the rights of others.
