Conquering Mt. Pulag: A Journey to the Roof of Luzon☁️⛰️✨🤎
On April 14–15, 2025, I set foot on a journey I will never forget, a hike to Mt. Pulag, the highest peak in Luzon and the third highest mountain in the Philippines. Taking the Ambangeg Trail, known as the easy route or artista trail. I thought it would be a relatively chill trek. But as I quickly found out, even the easiest paths come with their own set of challenges and of course rewards.
We started the hike at 1:30 in the morning, armed with prayers, flashlights, layers of clothing and sheer determination. The trail was a mix of beauty and breathlessness. The first part of the hike led us through the mossy forest, the first camp and a magical place where nature seems untouched by time. Trees stood tall and mysterious, while the cool air whispered through the leaves. This is the common rest stop for hikers. It was too dark to appreciate the view during the ascent, but on the way down, with sunlight revealing the lush greenery, many paused to admire its surreal beauty and take photos.
As we moved forward, the scenery changed. The second camp welcomed us with wide open grasslands and a trail lined with dwarf bamboos. It was like stepping into a different world. The wind grew colder and the moon and stars above served as our light. Every step felt heavier, yet the thought of reaching the summit kept me going.
By 5:00 AM, I finally made it to the top. The wind was unforgiving, the temperature was close to freezing, and some plants were even iced over. I didn’t expect the cold to be that intense. It felt like hypothermia was just a few shivers away. Thankfully, I was able to borrow a puffed jacket from my sister. That small act of kindness may have literally saved my climb.
Standing at the summit, above the sea of clouds, all the exhaustion melted away. As the sun began to rise, painting the sky in warm hues, every hiker fell silent, captivated by the breathtaking view. It was indeed a soul-stirring. In that moment, I was reminded of how powerful and beautiful God's creation is. All the fatigue, the cold, and the effort felt worth it. It was more than just a hike. It was a humbling encounter with nature and a moment of quiet triumph.
To anyone planning to conquer Mt. Pulag, prepare not just physically but mentally. Make sure your gear is complete and your mindset is strong. This mountain demands respect but in return, it gives back something even greater: awe, gratitude, friendship and a memory that will last a lifetime.
I can finally proudly say, "I was there in Mt. Pulag" 🥹Through God’s grace, strength and favor made it all possible🫶
