On the morning of September 11, four commercial airplanes were hijacked by terrorists. Two planes struck the World Trade Center towers in New York City, one hit the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., and another—United Flight 93—crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers fought back.

Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day, including first responders who rushed to help.
It was the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history.
