Ruling the game against the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) yesterday, September 18,
the Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance and Development (JMRIGD) menโ€™s basketball team made history by marking the first time the institute achieved two wins in the said sporting event.

The match between the two colleges was close early on, with the first quarter ending with a two-point gap in scores in favor of CAL.

As the game progressed to the second quarter, JMRIGD began to dominate the court with sustained impressive shooting, successfully widening the gap between scores.

The team maintained the momentum until the fourth quarter, securing a 59โ€“26 win against CAL.

Claiming their first win in the olympics, the Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance and Development (JMRIGD) menโ€™s basketball team clinched a hard-fought 40-30 victory over Bicol University Guinobatan (BU Guinobatan) yesterday, September 17.

The rival team was held at 30 points during the last quarter as JMRIGD established contorl in the court and continued to pull away. JMRIGD made sharp play and secured the 10-point-gap win.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š | Women's basketball team of JMRIGD saw their first game end after a tough 36-04 loss to the College of Industrial Technology (BUCIT) this afternoon, September 16, 2026.

BUCIT stayed ahead from start to finish, limiting JMRIGDโ€™s scoring chances throughout the game.

Meanwhile, the men's basketball team of the institute kept the matchup close during the first and second quarters against the Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation (IPESR), maintaining a competitive pace against the seasoned squad.

The momentum shifted in the later half, however, as IPESR widened its lead through the third and fourth quarters. The game ended with the scores 85-40.

After securing victory in a tight match against the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) this morning, September 16, Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance and Development (JMRIGD) will proceed with the quarter finals tomorrow.

In the game earlier, BUCIT came strong in the opening set, securing a 25-21 victory against JMRIGD. Striking back, the JMRIGD recovered with 25-16 score in the second set to level the match.

Anchored on the theme โ€œBeyond the Finish Line: Compete to Inspire, Rise to Empower,โ€ Bicol University marked the start of the BU Olympics 2026, welcoming student-athletes for a weeklong tournament from September 14 to 19 at the BU Albay Sports Complex.

The event officially commenced with a parade from the university's Commencement Grounds to the BU Sports Complex, attended by students and university officials.

โ€œToday, we gather as one university, one community, and one shared excellence,โ€ emphasized Cyrus Barrameda, Vice President of Administration and Finance and University Athletic Board, in his welcome address.

Reinforcing this call for unity and sportsmanship, Joshua Karl Ricacho, a gold medalist in Menโ€™s Chess at the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (NSCUAA) Games, led the Athletesโ€™ Oath of Amateurism, highlighting the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and integrity that shall guide the athletes throughout the games.

The opening program also featured the Mr. and Ms. State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) 2026, bringing together representatives from across the colleges and satellite campuses.
