Available Capacity - 1,888MW
Peak Demand - 1,839MW

27 plants are on forced outage due to the earthquake, 16 others have been unavailable even prior to the incident; while 1 other is running on derated capacity, for a total of 1654.7MW unavailable to the grid.

Factors that contributed to the raising of yellow alert:

- 27 power plants tripped due to the 6.9 magnitude earthquake, with a total of 1,444.1MW lost from the grid

The Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.

National Grid Corporation of the Philippines UNSCHEDULED POWER SERVICE INTERRUPTION AFFECTING THE WHOLE SERVICE AREA OF LEYECO II (TACLOBAN CITY, PALO, & BABATNGON) @ 12:28 AM.

As of posting, we are coordinating with the transmission service provider and system operator for the cause and duration of this power service interruption.

JUST IN | The earthquake caused the separation of Leyte, Samar, and a portion of Bohol grid from the Cebu-Negros-Panay grid per the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
‎
‎As of 11 p.m., NGCP identified damage to its Daanbantayan Substation, located near the earthquake epicenter, and recorded the tripping of four 230kV transmission lines in Visayas.
‎
‎Aerial and foot inspection and restoration of lines in the affected areas will commence as soon as the situation allows, added NGCP.

UPDATE | PHIVOLCS upgrades quake from 6.7 to 6.9; Intensity V recorded in Tacloban City

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) have upgraded the M6.7 earthquake that struck the waters of Bogo City, Cebu to M6.9. This comes after the said agency released Earthquake Information No. 2, providing more information about the earthquake that occured at 9:59PM Tuesday evening.

On the other hand, PHIVOLCS also released the reported and instrumental intensities of the quake.

NEWS UPDATE | On September 30, 2025, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck the waters near Bogo City, Cebu. The earthquake was felt strongly in Cebu City and in parts of Leyte, causing concern among residents.

As of the moment are no confirmed reports of major damage in Cebu City. However, continuous aftershocks have been recorded, adding to public anxiety and disrupting normal activities. Many residents remain uneasy, fearing additional tremors that could occur during the night.

Local authorities have recommended that schools shift to modular or asynchronous learning and that offices may work from home arrangements to check the structural integrity of the buildings and ensure public safety.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has issued a tsunami alert for Biliran, Leyte, and Cebu City due to minor sea disturbances linked to the earthquake. While no major tsunami threat has been confirmed, precautionary monitoring is ongoing.

EARTHQUAKE ADVISORY | Tsunami Alert No. 1 has been released by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) tonight due to the M6.7 earthquake that struck the waters of Bogo City, Cebu.

The concerned public is advised to be on alert for unusual waves. People are advised to STAY AWAY FROM THE BEACH AND NOT TO GO TO THE COAST of the following provinces until the cancellation of this advisory:

👉🏻Leyte
👉🏻Cebu
👉🏻Biliran

People whose houses are located very near the shoreline of these provinces are advised to MOVE FARTHER INLAND.

Owners of boats in harbors, estuaries or shallow coastal water of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised.
