VOX POPULI | Different basketball teams during the advanced District Meet Basketball Games from all over DLC VI competed last August 8, 2026 to be the team to represent DLC VI for this year’s City Meet.

For this episode, the team had asked random players, coaches, an supporters on what motivates them and on what they feel that they’re now competing during the District Meet.

This basketball match is an advanced game for the DLC VI District Meet which is set to formally open on August 15, 2026.

LPHSI blows past SNSHS

Leyte Progressive High School, Inc. (LPHSI) turned in a composed performance to defeat Sto. Niño Senior High School (SNSHS) in straight sets, 25–14, 25–14, in the Secondary Boys division.

LPHS gained the early momentum after No. 1 opened the match with a service ace before the team’s offense found its rhythm through powerful spikes and disciplined blocking. No. 12 delivered key attacks, while No. 1 and 18 combined for a crucial block that halted SNSHS’ offense. Consecutive service points from No. 18 further widened the gap as LPHSI cruised to a 25–14 opening-set victory.

SNSHS responded with an aggressive start in the second set, taking the opening point with a spike through a double block and keeping the score close in the early stages. LPHSI, however, regained control as No. 1 answered with a service ace, No. 12 continued to produce timely spikes, and the team’s defense limited SNSHS’s attacking opportunities. A long rally ending with an LPHSI spike shifted the momentum completely before No. 13 added a service ace to help seal another 25–14 win, completing the straight-set victory.

STEFTI blazes past SNHS

St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban, Inc. (STEFTI) showcased its dominance in the Secondary Girls division with a convincing straight-set victory over Sagkahan National High School (SNHS), 25–10, 25–10.

STEFTI established control early behind the exceptional serving of No. 21, who recorded multiple service aces to help build a commanding lead. Although SNHS managed to score on a few service errors and fought through several rallies, STEFTI’s consistent offense and disciplined defense kept the match firmly in its hands. No. 21 added two more aces late in the set before STEFTI closed out the opener, 25–10.

SNHS opened the second set with the first point, but STEFTI quickly responded. No. 13 sparked the offense with powerful serves and later capped a long rally with a well-placed drop ball, while No. 7 added a thunderous spike to extend the advantage. Maintaining control from start to finish, STEFTI sealed another 25–10 victory to complete an emphatic straight-set sweep.

LNHS rules against LPHSI

Leyte National High School (LNHS) turned in a commanding performance to defeat Leyte Progressive High School, Inc. (LPHSI) in straight sets, 25–8, 25–0, in the Secondary Girls division.

LNHS seized control from the opening serve after capitalizing on an LPHSI attack error. No. 10 sparked the offense with three consecutive service aces, while No. 16 added a well-placed tip to the middle. Despite several competitive rallies, LNHS’ powerful spikes and disciplined defense prevented LPHSI from finding its rhythm. No. 17 and No. 1 further widened the gap with a dominant service run, before No. 10 sealed the opening set with a powerful spike, 25–8.

The second set belonged entirely to LNHS as the team maintained relentless pressure from the service line and executed its offense with precision. LPHSI continued to battle for every ball but was unable to break through LNHS’ solid defense and consistent attacks. LNHS completed the sweep with a 25–0 victory, closing out one of the most dominant performances of the tournament’s opening day.

LNHS caps opening day with dominant sweep over LPHSI

The opening day of the Secondary Boys division concluded with Leyte National High School (LNHS) securing a commanding straight-set victory over Leyte Progressive High School, Inc. (LPHSI), 25–8, 25–10.

LNHS ended the day’s competition with a strong showing, displaying a balanced combination of powerful offense and disciplined defense. Their consistent attacks and solid court coverage kept LPHSI under pressure throughout the match.

LPHSI fought hard and showed determination despite the deficit, pushing back against LNHS’ momentum and competing for every point. However, LNHS’ well-executed plays and strong teamwork proved too much to overcome as they closed the match with a convincing sweep, marking the final game of Day 1.

Following TINAS’ impressive opener, ACLC-Tacloban SHS (ACLC) continued the Secondary Boys action with a commanding 25–10, 25–19 victory over Greendale Residences Integrated School (GRIS).

ACLC dominated the opening set behind the powerful attacks of No. 11 and consecutive service aces from No. 5, while No. 14 capped a thrilling long rally with a decisive spike. GRIS showed resilience in the second set through solid defense, highlighted by No. 5 and the team’s libero, but ACLC’s relentless offense and key blocks proved too much as it completed the straight-set triumph.

TNAS overwhelms RVPIS in explosive straight-set victory

The Secondary Boys division opened in dominant fashion as Tacloban National Agricultural School (TNAS) overpowered Ridge View Park Integrated School (RVPIS) in straight sets, 25–10, 25–12.

TNAS wasted no time asserting its dominance after capitalizing on an early RVPIS error for the opening point. No. 1 ignited the offense with multiple service aces before No. 8 took center stage, unleashing a series of accurate float serves that repeatedly caught the RVPIS defense off guard. The relentless service game and balanced attack allowed TNAS to comfortably secure the opening set, 25–10.

RVPIS managed to score the first point of the second set following another TNAS attack that sailed out, but the momentum quickly shifted back. No. 8 continued to shine with two consecutive service aces and a thunderous kill spike, leading TNAS on another commanding run. With its aggressive serving, disciplined defense, and consistent offensive ex*****on, TINAS sealed the second set, 25–12, to complete an impressive straight-set victory and begin its campaign on a high note.

GRIS weathered a competitive first set before No. 8 sparked the offense with three consecutive spikes to claim the opener, 25–21. Carrying the momentum into the second set, No. 12 delivered three straight service aces as GRIS built an 18-point advantage en route to a dominant 25–9 finish.

NTCNHS sweeps RVPIS in commanding Secondary Girls opener

Northern Tacloban City National High School (NTCNHS) opened its Secondary Girls campaign with a convincing straight-set victory over Ridge View Park Integrated School (RVPIS), 25–10, 25–12.

NTCNHS set the tone early with a service ace for the opening point before No. 15 and No. 14 unleashed powerful spikes to build a commanding lead. RVPIS was also assessed a yellow card during the opening set as NTCNHS cruised to a 25–10 win.

In the second set, RVPIS managed the first point after an attack went out, but NTCNHS quickly regained control. No. 14 delivered multiple service aces, while Nos. 12 and 15 continued to score with strong spikes. NTCNHS sealed the match with another service ace, completing a dominant 25–12 victory.
