How a Volunteer Callout Saved Me Last Year
Our family was still new to CCF, and everything felt unfamiliar. I didn’t know anyone, and aside from attending the Sunday service with my parents, I never really knew where I belonged. I wanted to get involved somehow, but I had no idea where to start.
Eventually, I started looking for a ministry because I’ve always served in church ever since I was a kid. My brothers and I were active in our church back home. But the biggest challenge was that I’m really an introvert, and I didn’t know anyone here. So I kept searching. I didn’t even know where or how to sign up.
Then October came, and we attended Worship Night.
I ended up sitting separately from my parents because of some circumstances that I still believe it was by God’s design. He allowed it to happen for a reason.
This will always be my favorite part of that day because it became the turning point of my life.
You see, I had been living on autopilot. I’d attend church with my parents, wait while they were in their Dgroup, maybe grab dinner afterward, then head home. Week after week, it was the same routine. I wasn’t part of a Dgroup, and I never really tried to join one. I didn’t even bother going to the Welcome Center. I simply showed up every Sunday without realizing that God had something so much bigger waiting for me.
That was it.
That was my worship.
But that night was different.
As I listened to one worship song after another, I felt something I can’t fully explain. I felt God calling me. I felt His presence so deeply. I don’t even have the right words for it.
I just started crying.
Imagine everyone around me jumping, singing, and praising God while I was there sobbing uncontrollably.
There wasn’t even a specific reason. It was just my heart finally opening and accepting, “God, You are real. You’re here. You really came and called me.”
I walked into that night one person and left completely changed.
And here’s my favorite part of the whole story.
Right after that encounter, the Live Prod volunteer callout flashed on the screen.
Without even thinking twice, I signed up.
Ever since that night, I’ve never looked at worship the same way again.
I started seeing the people and everything behind the scenes differently, the Live Prod team, the church graphics, the camera operators, the lights, the audio, the praise and worship team, the volunteers welcoming people, and everyone faithfully serving in ways most people never notice.
I realized that worship doesn’t only happen on the stage.
Sometimes, worship happens behind a camera.
Behind a laptop.
Behind a headset.
Behind a simple “yes” to serving.
The rest was history.
Right after our orientation, Typhoon Tino hit. That’s another story connected to this one.
But if you ask me today, I can honestly say this ministry became one of the reasons I’m still here. One of the reasons I’m still fighting, still showing up, and still choosing not to give up on my life.
Maybe it’s dramatic to say that a volunteer callout saved me.
I’ve always been the dramatic one.
But in so many ways, it really did.
Through this ministry, God gave me people, purpose, and a place where I could use the gifts He entrusted to me.
I found a reason to serve again.
Not for recognition.
Not because I had to.
But because I wanted my life, my work, and everything I create to point back to Him.
God met me in my own well. He wasn’t waiting for me to have everything figured out. He simply met me where I was, called me closer, and gently reminded me that He had a place for me all along.
ᴊᴇꜱᴜꜱ ꜱᴀɪᴅ ᴛᴏ ʜᴇʀ, “ᴇᴠᴇʀʏᴏɴᴇ ᴡʜᴏ ᴅʀɪɴᴋꜱ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜɪꜱ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ ᴡɪʟʟ ʙᴇ ᴛʜɪʀꜱᴛʏ ᴀɢᴀɪɴ, ʙᴜᴛ ᴡʜᴏᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴅʀɪɴᴋꜱ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ɪ ᴡɪʟʟ ɢɪᴠᴇ ʜɪᴍ ᴡɪʟʟ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ʙᴇ ᴛʜɪʀꜱᴛʏ ᴀɢᴀɪɴ. ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ɪ ᴡɪʟʟ ɢɪᴠᴇ ʜɪᴍ ᴡɪʟʟ ʙᴇᴄᴏᴍᴇ ɪɴ ʜɪᴍ ᴀ ꜱᴘʀɪɴɢ ᴏꜰ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ ᴡᴇʟʟɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ ᴛᴏ ᴇᴛᴇʀɴᴀʟ ʟɪꜰᴇ.” —John 4:13-14
And now, I find myself walking toward the next chapter. A different ministry. A different mission.
I don’t know exactly where God will lead me next, but if there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that He never wastes a single step. Every season has a purpose. Every detour has a reason. And every calling begins with simply saying, “Yes, Lord.”
Just like the Samaritan woman, I pray that my life would point people to Jesus, and that I would never stop telling others about the One who met me at my own well, changed my heart, and gave me living water.
