The Two Lamps
Grandma Ndobah placed two lamps on the table.
One was bright but burned out quickly.
The other was smaller but steady, lasting through the night.
She turned to Kumbong.
âMy child, people live like these lamps. Some shine loudly for a short timeâflashy, noisy, seeking attention. But soon, their light dies out. Others burn quietly, with patience and purpose, and they guide others even in the darkest nights.â
She lowered her voice.
âDonât live to impress. Live to impact. The world remembers steady light, not quick sparks.â
Kumbong nodded, his eyes fixed on the steady flame.
I knew which lamp I wanted to become.
