Kilalanin ang ilan sa mga pesteng insekto na umuubos at sumisira sa mga pananim na niyog. Ang Cocolisap o Coconut Scale Insect ay isang mapinsalang insekto na nagreresulta sa sobrang paninilaw ng dahon at tuluyang pagkatuyo nito. Ang ganitong sintomas ay kaakibat ng kakulangan sa ๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ด at ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜บ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ด dulot ng pagsipsip ng cocolisap sa mga ito. Sa katunayan, kamakailan nga lamang ay naitala na may 516, 962 puno ng niyog sa walong rehiyon na ang apektado ng cocolisap ayon sa report nitong Hunyo (Philippine Coconut Authority, 2025).

Sa kabilang dako, ang ๐ฎ๐จ๐ ng Coconut Spike Moth ay kumakain sa mga bulaklak at developing fruits ng niyog na nagiging sanhi ng hindi pagtuloy ng pagsibol ng mga ito. Ayon sa datos ng Philippine Coconut Authority, aabot na sa 20,163 puno ng niyog na ang apektado ng nasabing insekto (Philippine Coconut Authority, 2025).

With the theme "๐˜ฝ๐™š๐™š ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ง๐™š๐™™ ๐™—๐™ฎ ๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™ฃ๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง๐™ž๐™จ๐™ ๐™ช๐™จ ๐™–๐™ก๐™ก", it highlights the critical roles bees and other pollinators play in agrifood systems and the health of our planet's ecosystems. Their role in pollination is essential for agrifood systems, supporting the production of more than 75% of the world's crops, including fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. And beyond pollinating, bees also serve as indicators of environmental health, providing insights into ecosystems and the climate.

From the many benefits these little buzzers bring, it is important to recognize the threat that they are facing. Currently, bees are facing species ๐™š๐™ญ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™ง๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™–๐™ง๐™š 100 ๐™ฉ๐™ค 1,000 ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ข๐™š๐™จ ๐™๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™š๐™ง than normal due to human impacts. If this trend continues, nutritious crops, such as fruits, nuts and many vegetable crops will be substituted increasingly by staple crops like rice, corn and potatoes, eventually resulting in an imbalanced diet.

Recognizing the dimensions of the pollination crisis and its links to biodiversity and human livelihoods, deliberate pollinator protection efforts are a must in order to ultimately foster the conservation of other components of biodiversity. Adopting a holistic approach that ensures the long-term co-existence of agricultural practices for the production of food, fibre and fuel and the biodiversity of pollinators is needed for sustainability. ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ๐Ÿƒ
