The Cagayan River is the longest river in the Philippines and flows through the Isabela province.
The river also known as the Río Grande de Cagayán, the largest river by discharge volume of water in the Philippines. It has a total length of approximately 505 kilometres (314 mi) and a drainage basin covering 27,753 square kilometres (10,715 sq mi).
Other notable rivers in Isabela include the Ilagan River, which joins the Cagayan River in Ilagan, and the Magat River, which also flows through the province.
ILAGAN RIVER:
This river is a major tributary of the Cagayan, originating from the Sierra Madre mountains and flowing through the eastern central portion of the Cagayan River basin.
ABUAN RIVER:
Located in Ilagan, the Abuan River is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular destination for picnics, cliff diving, and boat rides.
MAGAT RIVER:
The Magat River has a rich history, encompassing both a local legend and significant modern-day infrastructure. A popular legend tells of a strong man named Magat who, after saving a maiden from a snake, marries her but tragically loses her to a crocodile due to breaking a promise. The river is said to be named after him. Additionally, the river is home to the Magat Dam, a major dam built for irrigation and hydroelectric power, which has faced challenges due to siltation and environmental issues.
BINTACAN RIVER:
Bintacan River is a stream and is located in Ilagan City, Province of Isabela, Cagayan Valley, Philippines. The estimate terrain elevation above seal level is 35 metres.
TUPA RIVER:
Tupa River is a smaller river or stream tributary that flows into the Ilagan River. The Ilagan River itself is a major river in the province of Isabela, Philippines.
TAPPA RIVER :
Tappa River in San Mariano, Isabela, is a tributary of Ilagan River.
The River is part of the 19MW Ilaguen Run-of-River Hydropower Project. The project's catchment area above the intake is 318 sq. km. The penstock (conveyance pipeline) consists of 3 pipes, each 3.3 meters in diameter and 58 meters long, according to EMB.
PALANAN RIVER:
The Palanan River is a significant river system in the Philippines, located in the Palanan municipality of Isabela province. It's notable for its extensive drainage area, covering 63,571 hectares, which represents 29% of the total area of the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park. The river flows through the Sierra Madre mountain range, eventually emptying into the Pacific Ocean at Palanan Bay.
MALLIG RIVER:
The Mallig River is a river located in Isabela, Philippines, and is a tributary of the Cagayan River. It is known for causing frequent flooding in the area, particularly impacting agricultural lands. To mitigate these issues, a flood control project, the Mallig River Flood Control Project, has been implemented. The river also gives its name to the Mallig Plains, a historically significant resettlement area in Isabela.
