When we saw this castle, we couldn't help but wonder...how it was conquered on that era?🏰
It looks challenging..😅
This castle is on the top of a volcanic rock that gave it a naturally strong defensive position against invaders. The castle dates back to the 12th century, but the rock is believed to have been occupied for more than 2,500 years.
It is often described as one of the most besieged castles in Scotland. It faced more than 20 attacks and sieges on its history.
And getting to the castle isn't really easy. The approach to the main gate is uphill, with stairs and a steep pathway. Just imagine how difficult it must have been for an army trying to storm this fortress centuries ago.
Oops… there was a festival during our visit, so the entrance was closed. It seemed like the castle was treating us like invaders.😅 We didn't even get pass the walls!!!..
