President Bongbong Marcos (PBBM) has ordered the return of former President Rodrigo Duterte (FPRRD) to the Philippines so that his case can be tried in a Philippine court.
President Bongbong Marcos (PBBM) has reportedly decided to bring back former President Rodrigo Duterte (FPRRD) to the Philippines. However, it's essential to note that the Philippines has officially cut ties with the ICC since March 17, 2019, and PBBM has reiterated that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the country. Marcos has also stated that the Philippines won't recognize the ICC's arrest warrant for Duterte, citing the country's functioning judicial system.²
The administration is considering the next steps to facilitate Duterte's return, despite the ongoing ICC trial in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, the complexity of the situation and the country's stance on the ICC's jurisdiction raise questions about the feasibility and implications of this move.
