Of the three, Negrito perhaps had the most to prove.

She was thrust into the starting setter role when Creamline’s chief playmaker got the opportunity to play in Japan.

And had that chief playmaker been anyone but the astute De Guzman, the pressure wouldn’t have been as heavy for Negrito.

“The boss told me to just ignore it,” Negrito said, referring to Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses.

“We were sad [on Wednesday] night but we needed to reset our mindset because playing here in the Philippines is a good opportunity, so going into this game they talked about giving their best this game,” Hideo said on Thursday after the Kurashiki defeated Est Cola, 25-22, 26-24, 25-20, at Smart Araneta Coliseum to bag the bronze medal.

“Est Cola is a very young team and I feel like we grew up during this league so we are happy to still win,” Hideo said, speaking through a translator.
