11 Filipino Crew Members of Attacked Ship Returning Home

The last group of Filipino crew from MV Magic Seas, which was sunk by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea on July 6, is set to arrive in the Philippines on Saturday night, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). This brings the total number of repatriated seafarers from the ship to 17.

All crew members managed to abandon the vessel and were rescued by the passing ship Safeen Prism. Upon their return, each seafarer will receive P75,000 in financial aid from government agencies, with an additional P10,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Meanwhile, the DMW is still trying to confirm the fate of 13 Filipino sailors from the MV Eternity C, which was attacked off Yemen on July 7. Out of the 25 crew members on board—including 21 Filipinos—three fatalities and six abductions have been reported, though nationalities remain unconfirmed. Eight Filipinos have so far been rescued.

Eternity C was first attacked on Monday afternoon with sea drones and rocket-propelled grenades fired from speedboats by Yemen-based Houthi militants, maritime security sources said. Two security sources said on Wednesday that the vessel was attacked again on Tuesday night, forcing the crew to jump into the water.

The six seafarers who were rescued had spent more than 24 hours in the water, they said. One source had said earlier that seven people had been rescued but the EU's Aspides naval mission, which protects Red Sea shipping, issued a statement confirming that just six had been pulled from the sea. At least four were k*lled and 14 others are still missing.
