Mallig Plains Colleges, Inc. (MPCI) officially opened its Intramurals 2025 with the theme "Sustaining the Country's Inclusive Grassroots Sports Program as a Pathway to the Olympics" on October 27 at School Gymnasium.
The morning festivities began with the hoisting of team banners and a colorful parade around the MPCI grounds, which also coincided with the celebration of ASEAN Month. Some students proudly wore ASEAN-inspired costumes representing the diverse nations of Southeast Asia, while others marched in their team jerseys, proudly carrying their banners with cheers and chants. The parade featured the energetic contingents from the elementary, high school, and college departments, along with the SSC, SSLG, SPG, PTA, and FSA officers, all marching in solidarity and pride.
The crowdโs excitement reached its peak during the presentation of teams, as each contingent confidently showcased their identity and spirit through lively chants and synchronized movements. The field was filled with color, energy, and enthusiasm, reflecting the strong sense of unity that defines the MPCI community.
Following this was the Oath of Amateurism, led by a chosen athlete, symbolizing every participantโs commitment to fair play, integrity, and sportsmanship. The athletes pledged to compete with honor, respect, and humility โ upholding the true essence of the games.
One of the most symbolic moments of the program was the Lighting of the Torch of Friendship, a tradition that marked the unity and burning passion of the MPCI family. As the torch was lit, the flame illuminated the ground โ representing not only the spirit of competition but also the enduring friendship and teamwork that bind the MPCI community together. The crowd cheered as the torch burned brightly, signifying the official start of the intramurals.
Adding depth to the dayโs celebration was the inspirational speech of MPCI President, Dr. Praxedes Asuncion Ignacio, a respected and visionary leader. In her heartfelt address, Dr. Ignacio reminded everyone that true excellence goes beyond the playing field. She emphasized the importance of balancing sports and academics, encouraging students to be well-rounded individuals who embody discipline, determination, and passion in all aspects of life. Her words left a lasting impression, motivating everyone to strive for greatness both in mind and body.
In the afternoon, the excitement continued with the Dancesport Competition, Vocal Solo, and Vocal Duet, where students showcased their artistry and grace. Alongside these events, the Volleyball and Basketball Competitions also began, filling the courts with energy and competitive spirit as teams faced off in their first matches.
The opening day of the said event truly reflected the institutionโs unwavering commitment to unity, cultural pride, and holistic excellence โ celebrating not only athletic ability but also character, creativity, and academic growth.
