Based on exprience, yes, nagkakaron ng baha sa davao city katulad ng nakita nyo sa video. But i reckon its only because of the huge volume of rain and the contours of the land being the catch basin of its nearby high altitude areas. TO give this points a context :

1. During a heavy rainfall, and even while there's flood. You can see a vortex of water forming around the drainage points. This means drainage is effective and is clean inside.

2. You can see that while it is flooded, there is less to almost no amount of garbage floating around the floodwaters. This means that roads and drainage alike are relatively clean, which greatly aids proper drainage.

3. As early as 30min to no more than 3hrs depending on amount of rainfall/flood, the roads are already flood-free. This means that the outflow and the whole city drainage infrastructure including its pumping stations are effective and efficient.

PS : I am not a Davaeño and only cited my observations for about 1year worth of staying there.

Dubai has developed the world’s largest solar powered desalination facility, designed to convert seawater into clean and safe drinking water using renewable energy. The plant integrates large scale solar power systems with advanced desalination technology to reduce reliance on fossil fuels traditionally used in water purification. By harnessing solar energy to drive the desalination process, the facility significantly lowers carbon emissions while producing freshwater capable of supplying up to two million people each day in one of the world’s most water scarce regions.

Desalination plays a critical role in ensuring water security across arid environments where natural freshwater resources are limited. The project demonstrates how renewable energy and infrastructure innovation can address growing global challenges related to population growth, climate change, and freshwater scarcity. Experts view solar powered desalination as a sustainable model for future coastal cities seeking resilient water systems while minimizing environmental impact.

Solar-Powered System That Can Produce 2,000 Liters of Drinking Water

Filipino researchers have developed a portable, solar-powered water treatment system capable of producing up to 2,000 liters of potable water in about nine hours. Known as SAFEWATRS, the technology was developed by the Department of Science and Technology's Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) to help provide safe drinking water in communities where conventional water infrastructure or reliable electricity may be limited.

The system uses solar energy to operate its water treatment process and can treat freshwater from sources such as rivers, lakes, springs, and collected rainwater.

During testing using water from Laguna Lake, the treated water reportedly met the mandatory parameters evaluated under the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.

This makes the technology particularly promising for emergency response, disaster-affected communities, and remote areas where access to centralized water systems can be difficult.

SAFEWATRS has also moved beyond laboratory testing. A unit deployed in Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur, was reported to serve approximately 180 households, while another unit began providing drinking water in 2026 to at least 50 households in an Akeanon-Bukidnon Indigenous community in Madalag, Aklan.

DOST has also reported deployments in other parts of the Philippines. The technology received a Silver Award at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva in Switzerland in 2024, recognizing its potential as an innovative water treatment solution.

UY PILIPINS: Filipino Scientists build Solar-powered machine that produces 2,000 liters of safe drinking water in just 9 hours.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has installed a mobile-water treatment system for the Abelling tribo community in sitio socorro in Barang Moriones, San Jose, Tarlac.

The P1.27-million Safe Water Treatment System: Emergency Disinfection System of Drinking Water (SAFEWTRS) project was funded under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program.
