Released by Square back in 1999, this game was an absolute masterclass in charm. You got two completely different playstyles packed into one disc: Rue’s serious, action-packed monster-shifting journey, and Mint’s hilarious quest for world domination (and kicked pumpkins).

The writing and dialogue in this game still hold up beautifully today. Who remembers struggling through the puzzle jumps or collecting all those monster coins?

Even after all these years, Suikoden II is still considered one of the greatest JRPGs of all time.

It wasn't about cutting-edge graphics. It was the unforgettable story, memorable characters, emotional moments, and the journey to recruit all 108 Stars of Destiny that made it truly special.

Long before Final Fantasy Tactics dominated the grid, Konami gave us Vandal Hearts (1996). Aside from the incredible political story and tight tactical gameplay, it is universally remembered for one glorious thing: the hilariously over-the-top, geyser-like fountain of blood every time you defeated an enemy.

Talk about satisfying! Who remembers grinding through the trials to turn Ash into a Vandalier?

Breaking Down the 3 Best Tanks in Suikoden I

🛡️Humphrey: The ultimate meat shield. His natural PDEF stat is incredibly high, making him a pure tank. The only downside? He is quite slow.

🪓Kwanda: "The Iron Wall." He boasts defense stats similar to Humphrey, but his giant axe allows him to deal much higher physical damage in return.

⚔️Viktor: The HP sponge. While his defense is slightly lower than the other two, his attack power is great and his HP pool is massive. Perfect for an aggressive playstyle.

Before Persona perfected the social link, Atlus gave Western gamers this bizarre, h***y, fourth-wall-breaking hidden gem.

Released by Atlus in 1999, Thousand Arms is one of the most wonderfully bizarre, overlooked RPGs on the PS1.

You play as Meis, a womanizing "Spirit Blacksmith." The hook? To upgrade your weapons, you have to take your female party members on full-blown dates.

Packed with colorful sprites, a J-Pop soundtrack, and endless fourth-wall breaks, it brilliantly blends turn-based combat with a dating sim.
