•She was reportedly the only person accepted out of around 4,000 applicants at that audition.

One of the saddest parts is that Lisa has talked about wanting to 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 during her trainee years because the debut plans kept getting delayed. Her mom encouraged her to stay and keep going.

Jennie was around 14 years old when she joined YG.
She auditioned for YG and passed.
At that point, there wasn't yet a BLACKPINK as we know it today the lineup and even the planned group were still changing.

𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. Jennie explained that YG held monthly evaluations. Trainees had to prepare:

• a solo song
• a group song
• a dance
• choreography
• outfits
• singing/dancing videos and photo shoots

She described it as being almost like a 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘴. She did this for around six years.

In 2012, YG posted a mysterious photo asking “Who’s that girl?” It was Jennie. So fans actually saw her four years before BLACKPINK debuted.

She also started appearing in other YG artists' projects before BLACKPINK:

She appeared in G-Dragon's “That XX” music video in 2012.

She featured on G-Dragon's “Black” in 2013.
She also appeared on Lee Hi's “Special.”

And there's an actual 2012 YG trainee video of Jennie where she's listed as 16 years old and speaking Korean, English, and Japanese.

Jennie didn't simply train for six years knowing she'd definitely debut. The trainees were constantly competing and being evaluated. She later said that the experience wasn't easy, but she believed those difficult trainee years helped the BLACKPINK members become stronger together.
