There is something unsettling about seeing an active military officer like Col. Raymund Lachica being drawn into a highly political interrogation over confidential funds.

By all means, investigate public money. Accountability is non-negotiable. But when the person being questioned is a military officer and the subject may involve security operations, there should also be a national-security lens.

It is one thing for civilians to demand accountability. It is another to expose military personnel to politically charged questioning, particularly when some of those doing the questioning openly come from the ideological left.

I honestly wonder how the rank and file and the military institution itself, view this. Does this strengthen civilian oversight, or does it risk politicizing the military?

That distinction matters. In a democracy, civilian control of the military is essential. But so is protecting the professionalism, institutional integrity, and legitimate security interests of the armed forces.

We can see right thru them

A senator and lawyers resorting to insults and name-calling is hardly a sign of confidence. It looks more like desperation and, ironically, reinforces the growing perception that the impeachment trial is less about accountability than a political demolition job.
Discerning people can see right through these tactics. They reveal the real agenda, the motivations behind them, and ultimately, the moral character or lack thereof of those resorting to them.

Sen. Imee Marcos stood by her “ICC” or “Impaktang Claire Castro” label against Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, criticizing her remarks about teachers following the fatal shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga University, which drew public backlash.

Castro faced pushback after teachers questioned the relevance of focusing on teachers in an incident involving a student’s actions.

Marcos defended teachers against what she described as unfair criticism, saying educators should not be held responsible for acts they did not commit. Castro responded by telling the senator to watch her full briefing before making further statements.

Teacher groups, including the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), also criticized Castro’s remarks, saying educators should not be blamed for violent acts committed by students. The backlash further fueled discussions on accountability, school safety and addressing the root causes of violence rather than shifting blame to teachers.
