Under the new German Citizenship Law, all applicants for naturalization will now have the option of retaining their previous citizenship when acquiring German citizenship without any restrictions. It then depends exclusively on the citizenship law of the country of origin whether the previous citizenship can be retained or may be lost upon acquiring German citizenship.

An Opportunity Card allows you to only work for 20-hours per week or part-time. Once you receive a full-time permanent contract then your Opportunity Card would be turned into a Working Visa by your Employer.

The Opportunity Card in Germany gives you a one-year residence permit to look for a job. So you do not need a permanent employment contract! You can easily apply for the Opportunity Card via the points system. With the Opportunity Card, people from non-EU countries can enter Germany to look for a suitable job. They do not need to have a permanent employment contract to be able to come over and get the chance of getting hired while temporary staying in Germany. The Opportunity Card is given to those who are recognized as skilled workers or who achieve at least six points in the points system. In addition, their livelihood must be secured for the duration of their stay.
