Amidst the clamor of tales, voices, and raging storms, he sowed calmness and truth through the stories as he took on the role of being The Junior Advocateโ€™s School Paper Adviser. Its stem grew plentiful, soaring beyond the clouds, reaping awards, bonds, but most of all, impact.

To the eyes of the mundane, his brief venture as the School Paper Adviser was a JOURNey brimming with luck and ease. But through the tight deadlines, coverage, and exhaustive articles, he left some things better unstated.

Emanating a cool, calming aura that shelters people with soothing care, his faรงade, for many, may come as the nonchalant adviser of The Junior Advocateโ€”he who was carefree with the trust he gave to his editorial board.

But beneath his composed demeanor, there is a quiet-surging energy of passion and pride that allowed his protรฉgรฉs to soar high above the storm.

In his short span as the School Paper Adviser, he led three cohorts of campus journalists to uncover stories and make an impact across Manila. Starting amidst the year of cohort 7, they entered the division school press conference in a sudden hurry, yet, they were prepared to raise their voice, securing fourth overallโ€”marking the end of a beginning.

With a firm foundation at their start, they were eager to come back stronger. And Sir Dave, with a fiery determination within, was eager to uplift The Junior Advocateโ€™s spirit in his first and final full term as the School Paper Adviser.

Holding a duty to guide an editorial board with diverse personalities, he would often observe in silence, allowing them to fill the press room with their fervor, chaotic energy, and talking only when spoken to. Itโ€™s what made Sir Dave, ๐˜š๐˜ช๐˜ณ ๐˜‹๐˜ข๐˜ท๐˜ฆ.

But when the truth yearns to be told, and stories call to be unveiled, Sir Dave is always there to deliver. Amidst the chaos of panic, cramming, and planning in the press room, he perpetually looms with preparation and anticipation; heeding details, postings, and possibilities to forthwith deliver.

His voice is often not heard. But when it is,

At the prime of his only full term, he led cohort 8 to outstanding success, sending the most delegates in Paraรฑaque to compete in the regional school press conference and garnering second overall in the division school press conference of Manila. Moreover, they sent their newspaper to its first ever NSPC, landing in Vigan to represent NCR. The tides were strong in their favor, and the strings of destiny were seemingly intertwining with their fortune.

Still, with a full month before his leave, he accompanied the successors of his only term to entrust his embrace, even in his absence. He wasnโ€™t willing to depart without leaving a final impact. Hence, they carried out a special coverage for the year-end of cohort 8 as he joins the batch of his only full term in their leave.

Gleaming a subtle yet bright radiance, Sir Daveโ€™s soothing spirit lights a path that guides students, campus journalists, and the publication beyond stories and truth. As Sir Dave turns a page to a new beginning, the serenity he imposed will linger close to TJAโ€™s heart, passing on his last wisdom for the next cohortโ€™s instrument to leave a lasting impact.

Though his stay as the School Paper Adviser fled too swiftly to capture, the calmness he brought led the publication beyond the clouds, far above the stormโ€™s reach, gifting serendipity before his final leave.

Long after the storm has passed, the coolness of his energy will leave serenityโ€”even in his absence, even through his quietness.

TAMang Bilang | Honors rate holds steady; no student earns highest distinction

A total of 44% of FEU High School students from Grades 7 to 12 received academic honors for S.Y. 2024โ€“2025 โ€” a figure roughly consistent with last year's 43%, based on data from the Registrarโ€™s Office.

In an outcome not seen in recent years, no student was awarded With Highest Honors this school year. Among the entire student population, 39% received With Honors, while 5% earned With High Honors.

โ€œSa work koโ€ฆ ang shift [ko ay nagsisimula ng] 5 am to 6 am sa Mcdo, and nag-e-end siya ng 12 or 1, minsan extended pa ako ng 2. As a working studentโ€ฆ minsan pagka-uwi ako, hindi ko alam kung matutulog ba ako or magre-review. Kasi nagsasabay-sabay talaga โ€˜yung tatlong subject.

A typical day or week for me is sobrang busy niya. And nagre-require talaga siya ng effective time managementโ€ฆ especially kapag sobrang pagod ka na sa school, tapos pagod ka pa sa work.

So I always feel bad kapag ganun, hindi ako makaka-attend [nang] maagaโ€ฆ [pero] bumabawi naman ako sa mga paperworks. Lagi [rin] akong may namimiss out na events, especially sa mga friends ko and sa family ko, which many people didn't realize.

There were moments where I felt overwhelmed and considered giving up, especially kapag nare-receive ko โ€˜yung score ko sa Physics, sa Chem, and sa Bio. Pero na-overcome ko naman siya kasi I have the best support system, which is my friends and family.

When I think about what inspired me to become a working student, I can't help but to think of my mom because she worked tirelessly to provide me [with] a high-quality education. And I saw firsthand the sacrifices she made.

And I wish others understood that being a working student requires dedication and resilience talaga. Kasi sobrang hirap niya. โ€

TAMFlash | Graduation Day โ€™25: In Green and Gold, They Rise

A sea of green and gold filled the SMX Convention Center as FEU High School proudly held its 8th Commencement Exercises on June 30, marking the end of one chapter and the bold beginning of another for the Class of 2025.

With each step across the stage, graduates carried not just medals and diplomas, but the quiet weight of perseverance, late-night battles, and dreams too bold to shrink.

Tears welled, cameras flashed, and hearts swelledโ€”as families, mentors, and peers watched these young Tamaraws close one chapter and reach for the next with both grace and grit.

To the : may you rise to every season with steady courage, carve new paths with purpose, and never forget to always be brave!
