Knowing the Real Battle
I'll be the first to admit, I sometimes confuse my resistance to personal accountability and responsibility with spiritual warfare, labeling it a "demonic attack." In reality, it's often just my flesh resisting the changes I need to make to grow in Christ.
This internal struggle is real. As Romans 7:15 says, "For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate." And Galatians 5:17 reminds us, "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do."
When it's genuine spiritual warfare, we can't fight demons ourselves; that's Jesus' job. If we're truly under attack, we call on Him to fight for us because He's already won the war! 1 John 4:4 assures us, "Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who in you is greater than he who is in the world."
But when we're the ones resisting God's desired changes in our lives, we don't need Him to fight for us. Instead, we need to lean into the provisions He's already given us: prayer and His personal examples of perseverance. Our strength comes from Him!
As Philippians 4:13 states, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." And 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 adds, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness... For when I am weak, then I am strong."
