Is it true that MRI and Ultrasound have no radiation, making them safer than X-ray and CT scans?

Not exactly. All medical imaging uses some form of radiation, but the type matters. The key difference is between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

MRI and Ultrasound use non-ionizing radiation, which doesn’t have enough energy to remove electrons from atoms in the body. This makes them generally safer than X-ray and CT scans, which use ionizing radiation—capable of altering atomic structures and potentially causing harm with excessive exposure.

That said, all imaging methods are safe when used properly, with appropriate precautions and when the benefits outweigh the risks.

CARPAL BONE MNEMONICS

Sana Lahat Tayo Pumasa
Tegok Tayo Capag Hindi

Note:

Radiologic Technologist vs. X-ray Technologist: What’s the Difference?

Both Radiologic Technologists (RadTechs) and X-ray Technologists are licensed allied health professionals who use medical radiation to help diagnose and treat patients.

🩻 Radiologic Technologist (RadTech/Radiographer)
RadTechs are trained to operate a wide range of medical imaging equipment, including MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Radiation Therapy, and more. They complete a 4-year degree program and have a broader scope in diagnostic imaging and therapy.

📸 X-ray Technologist
X-ray Technologists are also Radiographers, focusing on general radiographic exams and fluoroscopic procedures. They complete a 3-year program and play a crucial role in frontline diagnostic imaging, particularly in emergency and routine care settings.

Both professions are essential to healthcare and work together to ensure accurate diagnosis and quality patient care. Their difference lies mainly in scope of practice and training duration—not in value.

What to Know About Having a General X-ray

1. Wear Plain Clothing
*Avoid clothes with glitter, ornaments, metal buttons, zippers, or hard prints.
These can cause image artifacts that may affect the accuracy of the scan.

2. You Can Request a Preferred Radiologic Technologist (RadTech)
*You may request a male or female RadTech based on your comfort. If your preferred staff is unavailable, you may bring one companion with you inside the X-ray room.

3. Female Patients of Childbearing Age
*The RadTech will ask for your Last Menstrual Period (LMP) to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure to a potential pregnancy. This is a routine safety protocol, so please don’t be offended.

4. Pregnant Patients
*X-rays can be performed during pregnancy only with: Guidance from your OB-GYN and you must signed a waiver . This is only done when benefits outweigh the risks.

5. Chest X-rays for Female Patients
*You will be asked to remove your bra, especially if it has underwire. Metal or thick materials can interfere with the image. If there's no metal or obstruction, removal may not be necessary.

"This RADTECH GUY is new to content creation and unfortunately made a video with a POV: a female patient about to undergo a Chest X-ray. The way he portrayed the patient’s body in the content drew a lot of backlash — which is understandable, as it clearly crossed the line of patient privacy and respect"

So, Gusto kong gamitin ang page nato, to raise awareness para sa lahat ng RADTECH, whether you're a student or already a professional: let’s always uphold patient privacy and confidentiality .

Sobrang nakakalungkot lang. Hindi lang naman RADTECH ang gumagawa ng ganung klaseng content, pero tayo ang na timing-an as example and sadly, it paints a bad picture of our profession , kung babasahin nyo lang yung thread ng post mismo , kawawa yung mga Radtech na mabubuti at maayos at yung mga RADTECH na patuloy lumalaban para makilala pa lalo ang trabaho natin, kaya sana wag natin aksayahin yung effort nila na e-angat tayo .

I hope this incident serves as a reminder for all of us: let’s value our profession. Never use our patients for content unless for educational purposes. Never invade their privacy. Let’s be the kind of Rad.Tech professionals we can all be proud of.

To end my post, I will leave this message for you to reflect:
"RadTech Profession is more than pressing buttons or positioning patients — it's about being a crucial part of the diagnostic process and making a real difference in patient care."

I came across a Facebook post discussing how to handle some RadTech graduates practicing without a license, and I wanted to share my opinions on this important issue;

The answer is NO , it is a violation of RA 7431 (Also known as the Radiologic Technology Act of 1992, specifically falls under Section 26 (the penal provisions)

ALAM KO MARAMING TATAAS ANG KILAY , NA AKALA Nila SANTO AKO SA OPINION KO.pero;

(I know its hard and painful na may mga bagay

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF PRACTICING OUR PROFESSION WITHOUT A PROPER LICENSE;

1. Salary

2. Essence of our profession

3. Goal breaker
I know most of you, wont agree, BUT nakakasira ng goal ang pagtratrabaho ng walang lisensya kase, nagiging complacent and okay na tayo sa estado natin dahil nakakasahod na tayo at ayaw na natin mas pahirapan pa ang ating mga sarili(may research eto before, that psychologically it affects our career path decisions) so dont get me wrong. And again does not apply to everyone dahil ang iba nasa abroad na dahil sa pagsisikap nila but for some nangyayari din to na ayaw ng sumakses pa.
----------

BUT WHAT IS MORE CONCERNING IS THAT:
" other allied health professionals are practicing our profession"

Dito tayo totoong DEHADO😔,
