🛑 Pinoy Freelancers: Ghosted by a US or Canadian client?
You may still have a way to hold them accountable.
A lot of Filipino freelancers think they have zero leverage when an overseas client refuses to pay.
But if the client is a registered business in the US, Canada, or Mexico, you can file a complaint through the Better Business Bureau or BBB for free.
Here’s the important part:
The BBB may contact the business and ask them to respond. If they ignore complaints, it can affect their public business profile and reputation.
And trust me, many North American businesses do not want unpaid freelancer complaints showing up publicly.
What you need before filing:
✅ Client’s business name
✅ US, Canada, or Mexico business address
✅ Signed contract or agreement
✅ Unpaid invoices
✅ Screenshots of emails, chats, and delivered work
✅ Exact amount owed
How to file:
Go to bbb.org/file-a-complaint and submit your complaint professionally.
Stick to the facts.
No emotional rants.
No threats.
No drama.
Just state what was agreed, what work was delivered, how much remains unpaid, and attach your proof.
Important note: BBB is not a court and cannot force payment, but it can put pressure on businesses that care about their public reputation.
Distance does not mean you are powerless.
