Emily J.T. Perez was a trailblazer, a leader, and a hero. She graduated with honors from West Point, became the Academy’s highest-ranking African-American female cadet, and served as a Medical Service Corps officer in Iraq.

On September 12, 2006, at just 23 years old, she made the ultimate sacrifice when a roadside bomb struck near Najaf.

For her service and courage, she was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart 💜 is one of the nation’s most sacred military honors, reserved for those who are wounded or give their lives in combat. The Purple Heart stands as a symbol of her sacrifice, bravery, and unshakable dedication to her country.

Her legacy continues through Emily’s Way and the Emily J.T. Perez Treatment Facility, ensuring that her story inspires generations to come.

LET US NOT FORGET: The Aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan (YOLANDA)🌪️

Assessment:

Typhoon Yolanda, locally known as Bagyong Yolanda, struck the Philippines on November 8, 2013, as one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. It left behind a trail of unimaginable destruction, particularly in the Eastern Visayas region, with Tacloban City, Leyte, and Samar among the hardest hit.

⚠️ Human Impact
• Over 6,300 people confirmed dead (official), with thousands more missing and injured.
• More than 1.4 million homes damaged, half of which were completely destroyed.
• Around 16 million people affected across 44 provinces.
• Approximately 4 million displaced, many forced into evacuation centers and makeshift shelters.

🏚️ Infrastructure & Economic Damage
• Roads, airports, seaports, power lines, and communication towers were destroyed.
• Public utilities, hospitals, and government buildings collapsed or were rendered inoperable.

On the night of October 22, 2015, then-Sergeant First Class Thomas Payne led a daring rescue mission in Hawija, Kirkuk Province, Iraq. As part of a Delta Force assault team working with Kurdish Counter-Terrorism Group forces, he stormed an ISIS prison compound where dozens of hostages faced imminent ex*****on.

Under intense enemy fire, Payne helped clear the first building, securing the release of 37 hostages. But the mission was far from over.

When a second building was engulfed in flames and chaos, and cries for help echoed from within, Payne didn’t hesitate. He charged back into danger—cutting through cell locks, navigating smoke and collapsing walls, and fighting off enemy fighters to free 30 more prisoners.

He was the last man out—risking his life again and again to ensure no one was left behind.

For his incredible bravery and devotion to his teammates and mission, Payne received the Medal of Honor on September 11, 2020, awarded by President Donald Trump. He became the first living Delta Force operator and the first Medal of Honor recipient for Operation Inherent Resolve.

A true warrior—who walked through fire so others could walk free.

In the quiet suburbs of Massachusetts, a boy named John Chapman grew up with a quiet strength and a deep sense of duty. That calling led him to join the U.S. Air Force in 1985, where he trained to become one of the most elite warriors— a Combat Controller. It was a role that required not just physical endurance and advanced combat skills, but the ability to think clearly in chaos and guide airstrikes with deadly precision.

Years later, that training would be tested in the snowy mountains of Afghanistan.

On March 4, 2002, during Operation Anaconda, Chapman and a team of Navy SEALs were tasked with rescuing a fallen teammate on a peak known as Takur Ghar. As their helicopter approached the ridge, they were ambushed by entrenched al-Qaeda fighters. Chapman was among the first to leap into the fight.

Under a hail of gunfire, he charged toward enemy positions to protect his team. He was hit— gravely wounded— but not defeated. As the team was forced to retreat, Chapman remained behind, unconscious and alone.

Then, something extraordinary happened.

Against all odds, John Chapman regained consciousness. Bleeding and in pain, he rose and returned to battle—alone. He fought his way through deep snow, took out several enemy fighters, and climbed back up the ridge to a second bunker. There, he made his final stand, holding the line to protect an incoming helicopter crew and his team’s mission. He died fighting, surrounded by enemy fire, refusing to quit.

Sixteen years later, in 2018, the truth of his bravery came to light through drone footage and team reports. President Donald Trump posthumously awarded him the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military recognition. He was also promoted to Master Sergeant, a symbol of the respect and honor he earned in his final moments.

John Chapman wasn’t just a warrior—he was a protector, a teammate, and a hero. His courage and sacrifice continue to inspire the U.S. military and all those who hear his story.
