Earlier today, we took Toffee to the vet to discuss the process of getting him neutered. Unfortunately, Toffeeβs case is not as simple as a routine neuter.
His testicles haven't descended. They first checked if they were just located near the external area and had simply failed to descend, but they couldnβt find them there at all. Because of this, several steps need to be completed before surgery can move forward.
First, Toffee will need blood chemistry testing to make sure he doesnβt have any blood parasites or underlying health issues. After that, heβll need an X-ray and an ultrasound. Weβre hoping these scans will help locate his testicles so the vets know exactly where they are positioned (but the vet said itβs a 3/10 chances of seeing them through these procedures but weβre still hoping that both procedures will show his testicles)
The most concerning part is the surgery itself. The procedure recommended by the vet is called an π¬ππππππππππ π³πππππππππ, which means they will need to open his abdomen and search for the retained testicles. The vet explained that they are hoping the testicles are not attached to any organs, as that would make the surgery more complicated and risky.
I also asked if it would be possible to simply leave the testicles where they are and avoid surgery altogether because, honestly, the procedure sounds very scary. However, the vet explained that leaving retained testicles untreated can significantly increase the risk of tumors and other health complications in the future.
This is incredibly hard for us. Aside from how risky the surgery is, itβs also very expensive it's going to cost around β±30,000-β±50,000 ($500-$800), and Iβm really not sure how we can afford it right now. On top of that, the longer the surgery is delayed, the greater the risk of health problems developing.
Please keep Toffee in your thoughts and prayers. We want to do what's best for him, but we are really overwhelmed at the moment. π₯Ί
