UPDATE: After the Bicameral Conference Committee meeting, the proposal on the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) has been approved in its final form.
Under the measure:
Barangay officials will now serve a 4-year term, with a maximum of 3 consecutive terms.
SK officials will also serve a 4-year term, but are limited to only 1 term in the same position.
This new provision will take effect after the next BSKE, which is scheduled for the first Monday of November 2026. All terms moving forward will follow the 4-year cycle.
