“The energy of live ska shows is contagious. We wanted to capture that energy and share it with our fans—our music is all about that high-energy vibe that’s full of life, just like a soundcheck before a show,” explains Cepertino Gumabao, the band’s lead guitarist and songwriter. “We’re here to keep ska music alive, but with our own flavor.

Musically, OVERHEAT brings a unique and contemporary twist to the classic ska genre. Their sound seamlessly blends the fast-paced rhythms of traditional ska with the raw power of punk, the laid-back groove of reggae, and the frenetic energy of ska-punk. OVERHEAT’s influences are vast, drawing inspiration from iconic bands such as The Specials, Save Ferris, Rancid, and No Doubt, as well as local Filipino musicians like Put3ska who have blended diverse genres into their own signature sounds. The band’s approach is both reverent to the roots of ska and adventurous in exploring new sonic territories.
Their debut single, “OH Sound Check,” released in March 2025, introduces listeners to the band’s high-octane style. The track is a fast paced, lively anthem that channels the excitement and anticipation of a live performance soundcheck—when the band is gearing up to bring their A-game to the stage. As Cepertino explains, the song is more than just a debut release; it’s a statement of intent. “OH Sound Check is like a preview of everything we have in store. It’s a quick burst of energy, and it’s just the beginning of our journey.”

In addition to their debut single, OVERHEAT had also introduced a take on the classic Filipino folk song “Sarung Banggi”. Known for its timeless melody, “Sarung Banggi” is a beloved tune in Filipino culture. However, OVERHEAT’s ska version transforms the song into an energetic, upbeat rendition that blends modern ska elements with Filipino musical heritage, creating a fusion that’s both unique and nostalgic.
